Last year we featured Cassie Kogler‘s journey from freak to fashion phenom. Since then, she and her flamboyantly fresh line New York Couture have caught fire. Fit for a punk princess, each of Cassie’s one-of-a-kind pieces are hand cut, sewn, and detailed. New York Couture is now sold in over 20 boutiques in Canada, Japan, Panama, and the states (including Patricia Field‘s boutique in NYC). Cassie isn’t surpirsed she’s Stylehive’s Next Big Thing. “I used to tell people in high school that I was going to be famous. I didn’t know for what...I guess I know now

Everyone wishes she was a jet-setter. Angelina Jolie in a flowing, blowing dress on the tarmac as she heads to yet another faraway destination, Kate Moss dressed to the nines heading out on the town in London. Heck, most people would settle for being Kim Kardashian in a Juicy lounge set heading to New York from LAX. We love the style setters that not just make the world go around, but go around right along with it. Polish Stylediarist Sema totally captures the look. Ten great on the go outfits, right on your computer!
Who She Is: Sema
Her Look: On-the-go chic
Why It’s Cool: Hipster cool
Is it just me, or is there a bit of a color war brewing between this season’s hot hues? Mere minutes after declaring yellow the top color trend, Women’s Wear Daily arrives on my desk claiming orange is the new shade to crave. Then black and white and cobalt catch up and our worlds are thrown into a colorful chaos, but rest assured, peace has finally been restored in purse-land, because Bagtrends has named the top three winners in the battle of the bags. Click on over to Bagtrends now and see which colors came out on top.
The gladiator sandal has been making its way in and out of the style ring for years now, but the secret to its strength is the way it reinvents itself each time. What started out as a simple flat shoe has evolved into countless heels, wedges, and edgier versions (like Mary-Kate’s over-the-top Chanel sandals), but the trend du jour for this super trend is all about the blues, from baby shades to hues as deep as the Mediterranean. It’s the perfect way to tone down the sexy strapped style while remaining right on trend. Click on over to People StyleWatch for tons of ways to score this look! Photo credit: People.com
This week was all about Elle Magazine‘s new EMag launch - Elle Accessories! I’m not sure if it was the new prints that I received from artist Dayna Gedney - or a recent trip to the beach, but I am feeling the motion of the ocean all right these days. Living in Northern California means that the beach on a hot sunny day carries with it a 90% chance that you’ll develop hypothermia if you dare to put a toe in the water. Or is it just me? So, let’s get back on track! Ocean life and sea creatures - with that in mind, here’s some work from the best and brightest in the world of independent design.
Believe it or not, the fashion world doesn’t stop, even for the Met Costume Institute Ball, but you’ll want to catch Shrimpton Couture’s red carpet recap anyway. Other headlines you can’t miss-- Stiletto Jungle tackles the strapless bra situation, Beauty Snob shows us how to get the Material Girl’s Hard Candy cover look, and Papierblog brings us the scoop on fashion’s greatest entrepreneurs. Check out what’s happening this week in the fabulous world of the fashion blog-o-sphere!
They say mama knows best, so if your mama’s an eco-mama, you know she knows best in more ways than one! Show her you appreciate her and appreciation for the environment by surprising her with a gift that fits her eco-conscious lifestyle. From sustainably-chic jewelry and tops to makeup and Bodanna!
Date night. Two simple words that can send shivers up anyone’s spine. The plotting, the scrutinizing, the analyzing - it’s enough to drive you mad. Clothes speak volumes and no matter what, they will always prompt judgments from others. It is this sentiment that drives my weekly columns for the hottest new website in town, thefrisky.com (also one of Stylehive’s community partners ) a fun, fresh, fantastically fabulous site devoted to sex, love, relationships, fashion, and all that fun stuff. Click READ MORE for a taste of some of the salacious topics I recently covered, guaranteed to help you ROCK IT on your next big date.
Every week, thousands of stylemakers from across the globe join Stylehive, making it THE destination for what’s happening RIGHT NOW in the wide wide world of style. Every week, we had out Hive Awards to the Stylehivers who captured our - admittedly short - attention spans. This week, check out teeavigee (Downward Facing Dog expert), fashionisticdork (lavender hater), alexagatha (discovering good places to eat, shop, and be), and mystic_smile - who grabs our coveted “Commenter Of The Week” trophy! Click READ MORE to start following this week’s four faves! (Have a Stylehive genius YOU want to nominate? Tell us in COMMENTS!)
This week I challenged Stylehivers to tell me who their favorite rock star is and why. Why? Because we featured April77 Records as our Next Big Thing this week, and they gave us a rockin’ giveaway of a limited edition VINYL Domino tribute album and their Manchester polo with guitar pick pocket. That’s why! So who had the best argument for why their rock hero rules? Click READ MORE to find out!
Stylehive is not a competition. It’s a community, where you get to express your individual style, and check out others’ favorite stuff for new style inspiration. That said, we do have some REALLY popular Stylehivers - you can tell by how many new followers each gets each week. And this week, our Most Popular 3 include our own Honeybee and BreeBee (our San Francisco and New York style editors) and AuntBee, one of our most active and coolest members since Stylehive hit the scene. I thought it would be fun to compare their recent bookmarks and see whose style YOU like the most!
Last month’s City Style feature showed you where to sleep, shop, and shake it in modern Moscow, but now we’re back from the (former) USSR and ready to take you on a super stylish tour of my favorite city - San Francisco! From the food to the breathtaking views and the personality that each neighborhood has to offer, SF was an easy choice, and to start things off we’re welcoming you to Hotel Union Square. Situated amongst SF’s renowned shopping hotspots, the boutique hotel boasts sleek Art Deco styling and bold colors that contrast wonderfully with the slick mirrored accents. Belts and hats are both MAJOR must-haves this season, trends which will continue well into the fall, so start stocking up. With so many options - from skinny to wide to bold to belts to floppy, fisherman, and cloche hats - getting in on this trend can be overwhelming. Which is why elleaccessories.com is such a great resource, bringing you the creme de la creme, plus tips on how to incorporate belts and hats into your look. Check out my SLIDESHOW for some hot hat and belt finds inspired by the virtual pages of elleaccessories.com.
Los Angelinos may slack off during the day, sticking to easy lounge pants and hoodies, but come evening time, things kick up a notch and there’s style everywhere. The current look du jour is a pair of cool pants worn with a floaty, sexy silk top and 70s jewelry, heels hidden under floor-grazing hems. Pretty dresses with flat gladiator sandals and easy trouser denim looks are close behind, while style setters are all about pant-length silk jumpsuits with halter necklines and voluminous legs. This was the scene at the Tres Glam trunk show last night, hosted at Petro Zillia. Guests noshed on HER energy drinks, munchies from Ashton Kutcher’s restaurant Dolce, and Roberto Cavalli vodka with designers Britney and Lisa Gastinau (of Gastinau Girls). Here’s a SLIDESHOW of my five favorite looks from last night!
