I own a lot of jeans. A lot. I have my comfy jeans for class, I have my sexy jeans for going out, I have my fat jeans for the end of the school year when nothing else fits, and I have my weekend jeans with the giant holes in the knees/between my legs where my thighs rub together. What I don’t have is a pair that glows in the dark. I know! What’s wrong with me? How have I survived college this long without Diesel’s latest design that glows bright white under the dim lighting so common in sweaty frat basements? It’s amazing I’m even here to tell the tale. OK, so at first glance glow-in-the-dark pants might seem appropriate for raves and raves only, but upon further inspection these things could really be a great investment. Just think about all the times a pair of glowing legs might come in handy…

Say so long to pearlescent gunmetal and chromed-out silvers—matte grey is the hot beauty shade for the chilly season ahead! Matte nails have already taken the beauty world by storm, but now other makeup products are following in hot pursuit! From soft stone gray to rich chalky charcoal, there’s something about matte grey that gives the face an unexpected warmer look than the more common frosty silver shades. While I’ve noticed that grey shadow seems to bring the best out of green peepers, it’s hard to find someone who can’t pull off a dark slate eyeliner in place of your basic black. Plus, mattifying your lids leaves room for shimmer elsewhere (ie: cheeks or lips) and helps ensure a balance so that your face doesn’t end up looking like a shiny disco ball! Watch the slideshow for a series of grey shades to consider adding to your cosmetics collection!
Women have been secretly raiding their boyfriends’ and husbands’ closets for ages now. Finally, fashion has caught on and this trend, though relatively new, has been around for a few seasons which is ancient in the fashion world, and probably means it’s going to stick around for awhile. Boyfriend jeans, tees, and blazers have become very popular and it’s sure to stick around this fall and winter. With all the extra coverage and layers needed to keep you warm, staying stylish at the same time can prove to be a little more of a challenge. Our boyfriends’ closets, with their blazers, cardigans, jeans, and tees, are full or inspiration for staying fashionably cozy this fall, but he’ll be wanting to wear his own clothes for the same reasons! Check out the slideshow for some great boyfriend-inspired pieces for $50 or less that you can add to your own closet, instead of stealing from his!

Carrie Underwood has come a long way since her “small-town girl with the big voice” image on American Idol. Lucky for that image of hers, she’s ditched the demure deer-in-headlights look and swapped it for an assertive attitude to match her sultry voice. I guess a load of confidence is easy to come by when you have a series of hit singles and Chace Crawford as your former arm-candy! Speaking of exes, in her latest video for “Cowboy Casanova,” Carrie hits the saloon looking retro-fabulous to warn girls about a bad boy’s particularly womanizing ways… and shows him a thing or two! Don’t forget—Halloween is officially in the dust, so don’t go full-on saloon girl when you try this look. Instead, stick to inspired pieces like a bustier dress, cute leather booties, and feather accents that only hint at Carrie’s costume-y video. Watch the video, and then check out the slideshow to see how you can go western without looking like you stepped out of a time machine.
When I hear the word velvet I think of three things- red velvet cake, the ‘90s and Stevie Nicks (not necessarily in that order!). Lately though it seems that velvet has entered my fashion vocabulary in a way that isn’t making me cringe—it’s fashion forward, colorful, and surprisingly cool. This fall, the fuzzy fabric goes way beyond the basic little velvet blazer or velveteen rabbit bow headband. Marc Jacobs origami-folded bright yellow velvet into ‘80s space-age bustiers and dresses. Ralph Lauren gave us neutral toned draped jodhpur pants and Miuccia Prada incorporated hints of velvet into tweed skirts and jackets. If you must go the blazer route, try a different shape like Surface to Air’s ‘Bleys’ jacket or go for a slouchy version like Gryphon’s smoking jacket. Alexander Wang peppered his runway show with black velvet, in a super rock and roll way; try the cool oversized vest for a totally unexpected velvet touch. Still scared of all the heavy fabric and shine? You can still stick to a touch of velvet with a cute pair of ballet flats. For more ideas for wearing velvet, check out the slideshow.
Have you ever been tricked by a mirror? No, I’m not talking about those dressing room mirrors that make anyone look like Gisele. I’m talking about mirrored walls that make rooms look bigger or half-filled mirrored bowls that make it seem like it’s filled with endless treats. Yup, I’ve definitely gotten tricked by mirrors! This time, it’s not a mirror that has tricked me, but trompe l’oeil print instead. I found these food print bowls from Dutch by Design and was instantly charmed by them. The outside of the bowls look quite ordinary, but once you peek inside, a convincing print of popcorn, chips, salad greens, french fries, and more can be seen. I can imagine filling the popcorn bowl with popcorn and watching my friends try and get the last kernel only to be tricked! The hard part is deciding which one to get!

I consider myself pretty technologically advanced. I have a cute little MacBook Pro sitting on my desk at home, and our flat screen Sony Bravia is linked to my boyfriend’s computer so that we can watch movies on the TV through his laptop. I have an iTouch and a Blitz (maybe that last one doesn’t technically make me savvy, but cuteness must be factored in somewhere to this equation). And yet, with all my bells and whistles, I still felt something was missing. Then, I found her. The iHome LED color-changing speaker system was just the friend I was looking for. I can rotate through multiple colors if I’m feeling psychedelic, or settle her on white and listen to Death Cab for Cutie if I’m feeling mellow. Another awesome feature? The iHome charges your iPod while you listen, so instead of getting dead batteries when you’re reading to transfer from home to travel, you’re all souped up and ready to go.

Jealous of the kiddos that’ll have the opportunity to spill milk and cookies all over their new Stella McCartney for GapKids clothes? Now there’s something you can do about it… well, maybe. Racked has footage of (all grown up) Grazia editors squeezing their way into certain pieces from the collection, and before you dismiss them as completely crazy, take a moment and consider that a) when done right, this is kind of brilliant, and b) you’ve totally thought about doing the same thing. Besides, $78 for a Stella McCartney tuxedo jacket is a practically unheard of deal, recession or no recession, and I’m certain it’s no coincidence that the only sold-out sizes on gap.com are XL and XXL. Sure, retro “gadgets” may look cool in a stylishly old-fashioned sort of way, but when it comes to actually using them, our geeky reliance on modern-day tech has us too cyber-spoiled and impatient to put any effort in something that can’t keep up with our 3G speediness. The solution? A techie piece of equipment that just looks vintage, but packs all the convenient specs and capabilities of the most recent releases in the gadget world. The Revo Heritage Table Radio has the 60s-style walnut veneer surface, but boasts some seriously modern features in that retro-looking package: an iPod dock, WiFi for all your favorite internet stations, wireless streaming from your laptop, a remote control for maximum laziness, and even an alarm clock in case you doze off while listening to your tunes. It’s the perfect device for the music lover who may have an old soul… but secretly can’t live without a healthy dose of modern tech!
