Tweed is a woolen fabric, most often associated with English hunters on horseback. Or entirely covetable, but mostly unaffordable Chanel jackets. Not exactly an easy, accessible fabrication to stock your closet with, figuring out how to wear tweed can be more than a bit daunting. Have no fear, my fashionista friends.
A great tweed jacket or accessory can add the perfect finishing touch to a fall outfit, the trick is to make sure your look is more Blair Waldorf and less Sherlock Holmes. Think bright candy colors, trendy silhouettes such as paper-bag waists or harem pants, and unexpected accessories, like deck shoes, to keep your look modern and chic. This fall, tweed is in and there are some great tweed pieces out there to experiment with where you don’t have to spend Blair money to get the Blair look!

There’s nothing that’s more feminine and pretty than a fresh manicure. If you’re nails are perfectly polished, you could wear a pair of old sweats and still manage to look polished and put-together. While a classic french manicure, or even just a high-shine solid color, will always look wonderful and definitely still have their place when it comes to the manicures, the new nail trend is a bit more elaborate. Pretty and simple polishes are getting a make-over with shining add-ons, edgy prints and sexy decals. While over-doing it with nail jewels and decor can quickly look cheap and gaudy, getting the formula down just right will surely turn heads and make you’re beauty style memorable. If you’re going to do a crazy metallic print (like the new DIY Minx patterns from Sephora), avoid any other decorations to keep from looking overdone. Love the glitz of nail jewels and decals? Splurge a little and get better quality jewels that will keep their shine and dazzle while staying on, instead of looking flat and dull and have the risk of falling off quickly. If you really want to push the envelope and put on a design as well as jewels, or a charm, focus on just one finger, significantly lessening the embellishments on your other digits. Anything goes with this new nail craze and designs and styles range as far as your creativity goes so get excited to try this new nail trend and click on the slideshow to see some favorite tried and true products!
This summer, even if you haven’t been sunning yourself on a regular basis, it’s easy for skin to get parched, dry, and flaky. And let’s face it—there aren’t many things less sexy than dead peeling skin! Exfoliating scrubs come to the rescue by sloughing off flaky skin, leaving you soft, supple, and smooth! Better yet, body scrubs also help polish and give you that healthy summer glow that’s reflective of nourished, moisturized skin. Bobbi Brown’s scrub from her latest Beach collection, with orange peel and pumice, is perfect for pampering and prepping skin on a summer day with a faint hint of the brand’s refreshing “Beach” scent. One of my personal favorites is Origins Salt Rub—it’s amazing how smooth it makes my skin feel afterward… just be careful not to use it on an open cut! There’s nothing ‘abstract’ about it, graphic and abstract prints are a funky and unique way to add texture and interest to your wardrobe this summer. Either a colorful, unorganized pattern of shapes or shapelessness, or sometimes inspired by a true piece of ‘abstract’ art or painting, abstract prints have been popping up everywhere from the runway to the retail window. The thing about abstract prints is that defining what one should look like specifically is a bit of an abstract concept itself. It can make an outfit edgy or trendy, colorful or somber, for day or night. Blown up prints on mini skirts, or a colorful mess of shapes on tops and dresses are all wonderful ways to make your summer closet that much more memorable. No matter your style, there’s an abstract print out there to suit your tastes, so click on the slideshow to see some great ideas on how to incorporate graphic and abstract prints into your closet this season!
Do you look in the closet and yawn before pulling out yet another boring outfit? Spice up your wardrobe with a leather jacket or leather gilet. Flattering jackets and blazers made of supple leather can easily dress up jeans and T-shirts, dresses and work attire. This cutoff black and grey leather vest, with asymmetrical zipper from TopShop, is guaranteed to bring a rocker chic edge to any outfit. The construction of this piece is incredibly innovative, including rectangular and rounded paneling, equipped with a high collared equestrian-gone-bad feeling. In fact, it almost alludes somewhat of a Gothic military design. The warm heather gray is definitely a plus with this leather gilet by UNIQUE, because by adding a warmer color to the overall stark black palette opens up a plethora of other mix-and-match opportunities.
As any loyal fan-girl knows well enough, The Twilight Saga’s third installment, Eclipse, premiered last Thursday at the Los Angeles Film Festival. Of course, crazed tweens were in a tizzy over Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner (Team Jacob!), but we Bees couldn’t help but be slightly more excited about the red carpet style. And after scoping out every star’s head-to-toe wardrobe, I can’t help but feel… stumped. For example, Kristen Stewart looked considerably brighter than her usual dour self, but I haven’t decided if I particularly approve of her one-sleeved sheath. And Ashley Greene is always pretty… but was her floor-length gown chic or just plain shapeless? Also, while Taylor looked Ken doll-perfect as always, it was quite a bold choice on R-Pattz’s part to opt for a cranberry suit… and I haven’t yet decided if I think it was a wise one or not. I’ll let you decide—check out the slideshow for the event’s red carpet highlights, then comment below on which looks you think were hits (or misses)! Photo Credit: PR Photos
You may already have your signature shade of lip gloss you can’t live without, but in the summer months ahead, even the most lightweight glosses can be a bit too sticky… and many lipsticks can look a little too opaque and dated when you’re looking for a fresh, seasonal look. If lip stains aren’t your thing, opt for another great lightweight lip color option—sheer lipsticks. Also known as lip tints, sheer versions of your favorite lipsticks give you that slightly glossy shine without being sticky and a healthy dose of color without looking too heavy. And the best part? Sheer lipsticks let you build color gradually, letting you go from day to night or from subtle to bold with just a few extra swipes. Check out the slideshow for a selection of my 10 favorite sheer lipsticks, just in time to stock up for summer!
Katie Holmes wore a boldly patterned dress from her own line, Holmes & Yang, to the National Movie awards in London. Homes & Yang is designed with her stylist Jeanne Yang. The line is still very new and is only available through Maxfield’s in Los Angeles. The Cut
Halloween, as far as I’m concerned, starts at the beginning of October and only ends when the pumpkin sitting outside your front door finally turns to mush (or, on an equally sad note, when the candy runs out). If you couldn’t tell, I pretty much think it’s the most glorious holiday there is. Fuzzy spiders pop up everywhere, the office candy bowl turns black and orange, scary movies are on ALL the time (awesome!), and every party is a costume party. So when it comes to decorating, it’s more than okay to invest in accents that go beyond crepe paper and jack-o-lanterns- after all, you never know when you’ll get around to taking them down, and by the looks of the ones I’ve found, you may not want to! A sleek skull tray displays sugary sweets beautifully all October long, and when the trick-or-treating ends it’s perfect for stashing your jewelry or keys. A Gothic style flocked chandelier adds sinister style to any room, especially this time of year, but is just as effective in toning down excess charm when the mood strikes. And a little of that fake cotton candy-reminiscent spiderweb fluff goes a long way. Putting only a few decorations up at a time will keep you from getting burned out too early in the month. If money’s tight, look for items that have a little more staying power, like things that won’t necessarily rot-- that’s a job for your teeth, after all! Happy Halloween!
