My total body transformation has kicked into high gear. I am at the halfway point, and just this morning, I weighed in at 158.6 pounds! Which means I’ve lost 6 pounds in three weeks! But here’s the thing, I’ve also gained a ton of muscle mass in my shoulders, back, and midsection, so my total weight loss is definitely even more than 6 pounds. And the most important thing - I am as strong and limber as I was in high school when I played soccer, which was a loooooong time ago. All thanks and credit go to Clay and Elizabeth Burwell at High Performance in New York, who took on the daunting challenge of turning my pudge into pugilistic power! But Clay and Elizabeth have some little friends I want you to meet that have also been integral to shaping my superphat physique…
Who ever said refrigerators couldn’t be hot? Well, they obviously never met these three punchy appliance finds! Talk about double Dutch-- top luxury lingerie designer marlies|dekkers has nabbed a highly coveted CILA (Contour International Lingerie Award) for the second year in a row, this time for her ‘undressed’ maternity collection. The designer accepted the award for the Best Maternity category at the reception and fashion show held at the Waldorf Astoria in New York. In 2007, she walked away with the Best Fashion Lingerie award at the event, produced every year by Contours magazine. Dekkers designed the sexier nursing bras after her pregnant friends pointed out the absence of such a collection, and cites her philosophy that being a new mom is no reason to be ‘frumpy.’ When fashion, comfort, and practicality look this good together, recognition is undeniable, and we’re excited to see who else takes note.
There’s no denying that accessories have the power to make or break an ensemble which is why on my constant quest to discover the hottest designers, I’ve been paying special attention to jewelry. My latest discovery is Slane & Slane jewelry, designed by sisters Heath and Landon Slane. The girls started creating sterling silver jewelry in 1995 using the same quality and detail historically reserved for gold and platinum with the intention of crafting styles wanted but were unable to find in the jewelry market. The never predictable, but always stylishly appropriate pieces that defines their aesthetic is a result of an array of symbolic inspirations, including classic architecture, mythology, a love of animals, spiritual influences, and more. The unique, yet subtle styles are designed to seamlessly complement every gal’s wardrobe and are widely renowned for injecting the perfect balance of understated elegance and playful exuberance. Prices range from $125-$10,000 so you can incorporate this stunning styles into your wardrobe on just about any budget. Check out my SLIDESHOW for some of my top picks. For more on the girls and the collections, head over to slaneandslane.com .

Those of us with highly conservative friends know that we often have to espouse the functional benefits of thongs. For instance, a good laser cut seamless nude thong completely eliminates the appearance of panty lines under even the thinnest of white pants. That has obvious benefits for the summer wardrobe. I spend most of my days helping women find the right underwear for their outfits. So, the function of their underwear often takes precedence over the fashion. Still, there is something about the thong that is just plain hot, and I know that my friends here in the Hive are happy to celebrate fashion over function. With that in mind, check out the SLIDESHOW presenting 5 hot thongs!

The summer months can take a hefty toll on your style by literally stripping you of the freedom to layer, leaving you to work with the bare essentials just to handle the heat. While browsing through Stylediary for some summer style inspiration, I came across barestyle who proves that you don’t have to look unfashionable to deal with the high temperatures! This outfit is perfect for strolling along the boardwalk on those smoldering days, and will keep you chic and more importantly, comfortably cool! Check out my SLIDESHOW to get this bare minimal look!
As a kid, a trip to the roller rink meant two things: an excuse to eat Now ‘N Laters (stashed in my fanny pack, no less) and the unavoidable counting of the bruises upon returning home from hours upon hours of making friends with the pavement. Nowadays, it’s taken on a different meaning as the perfect setting for getting decked out in all of those quirky, retro little pieces you can’t seem to get away with anywhere else. Had to have those sequined shorts for a reason, didn’t you? Show them off along with your moves as you make your way around the rink, or bring back the 80s with an off-the-shoulder sweatshirt top for the ultimate in casual cool. Either way, you can’t go wrong, and at the very least, you’ll be remembered for something other than the time you spent hugging the floor. Check out my SLIDESHOW for five roller rink-ready looks!
A fantastical mixture of neon, metallics, and some very unique runway looks, Juicygal makes what most wouldn’t even dream of wearing during the light of day, amazingly everyday-friendly. This Stylediarist is an obvious color (and Karen Walker) lover and is a hardcore print mixer. She has fun with larger-than-life plaid bows, brightly colored tights, even brighter flats and wedges, plus accessories galore! She borrows looks and pieces inspired by many different eras, especially from the 80’s, and makes them uniquely her own. If you are looking for some fun ways to really wear color, you won’t be disappointed. Find some of my favorite looks that she’s concocted in the SLIDESHOW, and you’ll see that this girl brings the party with her.

The Hybrid car: Half electric, half gas. A pluot: half plum, half apricot. And the mythical merman? Half man, half mermaid. Some consider hybrids to be the best of both worlds. So, it would seem that the ‘bootie-sandal’ would mean spacious freedom for your toes and strappy support for your ankles. This half-breed can be found in suede, metallics, with heels, and even jersey (yes, almost like a sock). Still very much in line with the always classic boot but also with a dramatic twist of the trendy gladiator sandal, is it perfectly balanced like sweet and sour chicken or does it more closely resemble poor ‘ol botched Frankenstein?
He may have been the first to get the boot, but who needs Project Runway when you already have a fiercely fabulous label of your own? Jerry Tam is the visionary founder of FORM- a modern luxury womenswear label now entering into its 10th season. Following his Runway exit, I met up with Jerry at the FORM Showroom to learn more- and was absolutely awe-struck by the amazing pieces, all crafted with the utmost attention to detail, shape, and structure for couture-like styles with everyday wearability. I could go on and one about this fabulous label, but no one can capture the essence of FORM better than the man behind the fabric himself. Click READ MORE for my exclusive interview with Jerry and check out my SLIDESHOW for my top ten picks from the fall/winter ‘08 collection.
Given that I just gave a hefty deposit for my wedding venue, to even share with you a handbag that is over $200 is too much right now. That’s why I’m fixated on sales, sales, sales. How about what’s going on at www.SHOPBagTrends.com, where you can buy one bag that’s already on sale and get another bag (that’s already on sale) for another 30% off? Ya, crazy stuff. So if it were me, I’d scoop up the Trina Turk foldover clutch for $150 and get the David & Scotti Woods Shoulder Bag for $105. So that’s $255 for day and evening bags from great designers! Now that’s something I can still stomach.
