Elegance and simplicity combined define the aesthetic of designer Maria Bianca Nero’s namesake line of beautiful dresses, Bianca Nero. These are the dresses to pull out of the closet when you’re in the mood for a look that says easy, effortless glamour. Best of all, these pieces are easy to dress up or down. Wear with metallic gladiator sandals and a long necklace for a sexy springtime ensemble, then change into a pair of killer stilettos and sparkly chandelier earrings for a more sophisticated evening look.
The blogosphere is ablaze with chatter about Prada’s Fairy Bag for Spring 2008. This limited edition will be available in two sizes, priced at $2290 and $2490. If those prices seem a bit steep for your budget (or if you’re just not the type to get on a wait list for a handbag), never fear! You can easily get your mitts on a bag that captures the essence of Prada’s quintessential spring fairy prints. All you need is a printed purse with a bold pattern that is equal parts hippie, girlie, and artsy. To get the same look on a shoestring budget go for something vintage, or check out spring offerings from affordable yet trendy stores such as Urban Outfitters. Just look for for funky floral graphics in fun colors, and personalize the Prada trend by making it your own.

If money were no object, I’d definitely be going somewhere ultra romantic for an unforgettable Valentine’s Day. Of course, I’ll settle for a lovely dinner somewhere local, but in the event that I win the lottery I’d like to have some idea in mind for the perfect luxe Valentine’s getaway. So I better start planning, just in case. Crane & Co. knows what Valentine’s Day is all about. Founded in 1801, more expressions of love have been penned on Crane paper than any other! And that expression is nowhere better illuminated than with your own handwriting. So this Valentine’s Day, Crane is offering Stylehivers a series of tips to help you write from the heart.
Tip #1. Writing equals thinking. Your handwriting, however hieroglyphic, should not hold you back. It is more personal than any fancy font you can find on your computer. And, says graphologist Barbara Harding, because you take your time with handwriting, the results are more thoughtful.
Want to create a living space that’s better for your health and the environment, but not ready for major upgrades or remodels? Here are four simple ways you can turn your home green without breaking the bank.
Furniture: Whenever possible, buy furniture made of reclaimed materials (such as wood salvaged from torn-down buildings) or look for pieces made with sustainable materials like bamboo, a fast-growing, renewable resource. Better yet, hunt for hot, vintage items on eBay and in specialty resale shops.
Paint: Look for non-toxic or “no or low” VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) paint such as Anna Sova’s Luxury Organics paints made with 99% food grade ingredients.
Situated in the small village of Jukkasjärvi more than 120 miles north of the Arctic Circle in Sweden, along the River Torne and beneath the Northern Lights, ICEHOTEL is the world’s first and most famous ice hotel. It is rebuilt from scratch every winter, constructed entirely from blocks of ice collected from the nearby river. The sprawling igloo-like structure usually features 60 guest rooms (ranging from $170-$800 per night, depending on the room) in addition to a sauna, ice bar, chapel, reception hall, and theater.
The next time you need to stock up on new plates or adorn your home with something a little extra special, why not opt for a one-of-a-kind ceramics piece? Surprise your sweetie this Valentine’s Day with a beautiful, personalized anniversary bowl.
Or treat yourself to a unique vase (or two or three or four...) for that little shelf you’ve been wondering what to do with. And while you’re at it, how about updating your dinnerware? Don’t use the same plates as everyone else you know. Instead, get yourself a set of seven vintage saucers, each emblazoned with its very own deadly sin. Have a friend who lives on take out? The perfect tongue in cheek gift for such a pal is one of Lorena Barrezueta’s colorful porcelain take out trays! Take a look at our slideshow of super stylish ceramics to see more crafty cool clay products!
New York-based designer Katie Zorn deftly combines elegance, simplicity, and drama in her namesake line. If you have an eye for shape and structure, you’re sure to fall in love with Zorn’s striking Spring 2008 collection. High quality fabrics, a neutral palette (complimented with an occasional pop of bright color such as coral or teal), and simple yet eye-catching construction are the hallmarks of the spring line. We especially adore the outerwear, ranging from a flirty trench to a classy swing coat. We also love the super dramatic styling of her lookbook.
How do I love vintage clothing? Let me count the ways… Actually, that would take way too long. Suffice it to say I have my reasons. And when it comes to swimwear, the reasons for going vintage are especially compelling. It’s hard to easily come by some of swimwear’s hottest features in modern day suits. Looking for swimmy options when it comes to boy cut shorts? 1950s suits are where it’s at! Pleated skirts and swim dresses? Try the 60s. But whether you choose a 50s bombshell pin-up girl suit or go for something slinky from the 70s, you’re sure to turn heads in a one-of-a-kind suit.
Looking for ways to get creative with your cabinetry? How about 2d Furniture? Store your stuff in style with this charming collection from Dutch designers Wouter Nieuwendijk and Suzanne van Oirschot. These are not your average run of the mill cupboards. Rebelling against the plain surfaces of yesterday’s utilitarian cabinets, the collection from Nieuwendijk and van Oirschot introduces elements of whimsy and novelty with the clever inclusion of 2d images of various household items such as newspapers, speakers, and all sorts of storage containers. A storage container on a storage container? It’s so meta! If you can’t get your hands on these pieces, why not take some inspiration from them and get crafty? Print out images of your favorite furniture pieces from bygone eras and paste them onto your own cabinet doors!
Everyone loves a cozy armchair or a comfy couch, but let’s be real: there are only so many ways to recline on a sofa or a chair. What if, instead of dictating how you lounge, your furniture responded to your body? This is precisely the goal of the Sitscape project, an exciting experiment in furniture design from Hackenbroich Architekten that aims to expand the dynamic relationship between people and their furniture.
Yesterday’s strict style rules just don’t make sense today. Never wear white during winter months? My favorite coat is winter white. Never wear black with brown, brown with blue, or blue with black? That’s so 1950’s. Never wear primary colors together, never wear pink with red, or pink with orange? Think again my colorful crew. It’s the 21st century, and it’s time to realize colors don’t clash, they vibrate! Put a royal blue coat with a cream colored dress and you get one vibration, pair it with a bright red one and you get an entirely different feeling. It’s all part of the fun of playing with color! Check out our slideshow for the most stylish ways to rock the color clash casbah.
Erin Fetherston’s girly, whimsical designs adorn some of Hollywood’s edgiest starlets, including Kirsten Dunst and Zooey Deschanel. 2007 was a breakout year for the Berkeley native, and 2008 promises to be even bigger and better. Fetherston’s penchant for ethereal gowns has garnered a cult-like following that only grows larger with every new season, from her Spring 2007 collection (her first to show as part of fashion week) to her stellar collections for Fall/Winter 2007, Holiday 2007/2008, and Spring 2008. And what does Fetherston do to top off such an impressively productive year for a new designer on the block? Why, collaborate with Target for their latest GO International designer offering (in stores now), of course!
Take at look at our slideshow of the highlights from all of Erin’s 2007 collections and 2008 previews, and see what all the fuss is about!
