Assistant editor at the hive in love with.... my pups, coffee, anthropologie, black/white photography, quirky interior design (think alessi, marimekko, kartell, etc). i'm always looking for anything that is classic but edgy.... feel free to send ideas my way! lisanne@stylehive.com
I live life somewhere between my Havaianas and whichever pair of four-inch heels I feel like teetering around in on any given day. There’s really no in-between for me. I attempted buying ballet flats on more than one occasion (really, I tried) but each time, I felt I’d be forking over the MasterCard and four inches of my soul (and at 5’ 3”, I don’t have much to spare). That said, a pair of particularly pretty embellished flat sandals does catch my eye every so often, and they just might be the exception to my (admittedly insane) rule. And because you Stylehivers seem to know this better than I do, I’ve decided to let you do the shopping. Go see the SLIDESHOW for your best of the best!
Style is all about putting things together in cool ways, and new combinations can cause quite the storm if they catch on. So how’s this for a hot combo- sought-after designers and 75% discounts? I happen to think they go together insanely well, and if you agree, you’ll want to check out People StyleWatch’s “Exclusive Deals” section this week- it’s filled to the brim with sweet deals on goodies from Moschino, Erin Fetherston, Miss Davenporte, and Chloé, just to name a few. You’ll also find 25% savings on edgy styles and celeb picks from your favorite sites, so basically, if you’re an online shopper and don’t check the deals section frequently, you kind of scare me. Click on over to StyleWatch and start spending- I mean, saving- now!
Want a chance to win a chic shopping spree? StyleBakery has all the details, plus chic summer outfit ideas from their editors! More news you can’t miss- 55 Secret Street mingles with fashion designer Isabel Toledo and friends, BagBliss is craving the Olsens’ favorite Fendi tote (and you will too), Coquette and Klum share a love for laceless Converse, and Papierblog has a preview of what we’ll be drooling over at Nordstrom come fall. Plus, Kristopher Dukes looks at thongs gone very wrong. Check out what’s happening this week in the fabulous world of the fashion blog-o-sphere!
A little heavy metal, a little hip hop, a little hard rock - this 90s grunge staple is back and better than ever, and it’s popping up everywhere from shoes and handbags to headbands (but thankfully not wallets). A thick gold chain handle gives an ordinary leather bag a bit of edge, while chain mail jazzes up jewelry in an unexpectedly delicate way. We’re especially enamored over L.A.M.B’s rendition of the chain trend - wait ‘til you see where it pops up! So bring on the noise, because this is one chain gang you’ll want to join. Check out my slideshow and you’ll be chic in chains in no time.
Every week Stylehive brings you five of the week’s top home decor deals, because as much as we all love a great steal on a new top or a pair of shoes, it’s nice to tend to a room that isn’t your closet from time to time. I suppose you could tend to both at the same time if you’re a talented multi-tasking shopper like someone I happen to know quite well, but that’s a matter of personal preference. Anyway, this week’s picks are extra special as we’ve included a few must-haves from Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale - but you’ll have to see them to believe them, so hurry and click on the slideshow! Deals like these won’t last long.
So you want to add a bit of brightness to your look, but you’re not so sure you can pull off the intensity of yellow and orange. I get that. That’s why I’m all over the star trend that’s slowly making its way into stores, but luckily it’s not completely played out, which only means one thing - I want it all! Lagerfeld liberally sprinkled stars all over the Chanel Spring 08 runways, and while I can’t exactly wrap my head around a star-print jumpsuit à la Kate Moss, I could easily wrap myself in the scarf version- it’s whimsical, still unexpected, and perfect for all year round. Which is good because I don’t think I’d ever take it off. If I got my hands on one, that is. Anyway, check out my slideshow for five starstruck styles!
It’s hard to believe we’re halfway through summer, and with fall looming, there’s a chance that our closets are experiencing a bit of chaos! Lucky for them - and you - Stylehive’s Stylescopes are full of fashion predictions and shopping suggestions that’ll keep you and your wardrobe happy this week! What do the stars have in store for you? Aries are spending more time in dreamland, Leos are on the edge, Libras quench a thirst, and Pisces give in to a new idea. Click on the slideshow, find your sign, and get stylin’!
Last week we presented you guys with one crazy deal- two FREE tickets to the New American Music Union’s Summer Tour, a.k.a. the only chance you’ll get this summer to see Bob Dylan, The Raconteurs, The Roots, and Spoon- not to mention plenty of other up and comers! We wanted to hear what you’d wear to the two-day extravaganza if you won, and while your comments were filled with a ton of truly rockin’ outfits, only one could be called the best, and so without further adieu, the lucky winner is..
So you can’t carry a tune to save your life, and the only stage you’ve performed on is actually the living room floor with your Wii and Rock Band. Time to let your outfit take over! The hive’s full of rockstar-ready looks that’ll take you from concert to after party in style. Not so sure you can pull it off? Try a coat or two of gunmetal nail polish and then see how you feel, or go all out and rock an ultra-glam pair of black denim skinny jeans and studded boots. Then add your favorite shades, and please, please be nice to the screaming fans. Click on the slideshow, and rock on.
We all have our off days where we come home, look in the mirror, and wonder what on earth we possibly could have been on when we got dressed that morning. But for most of us, the horror ends there and we don’t have to worry about pictures surfacing anywhere- whew! It’s a very different story when you’re a star though, and while they definitely make us jealous most of the time, they too have off days. Now’s your chance to mouth off on their outfit choices, so click on over to People Stylewatch and get started!
A laptop is a big investment for anyone, but for fashionistas, it’s an even bigger one because it requires another investment- a bag to keep it in! Oh, but any old laptop bag just won’t do! Luckily there are plenty of handbags out there to fit your laptop and your lifestyle, and fortunately, not all of them cost as much as the laptop itself. My mac is perfectly happy in its Kate Spade tote, but if I were to surprise it with a new home, it would surely be Belen Echandia’s ‘take me anywhere’ bag. Click on over to Bagtrends to see more laptop-friendly options!
Have you been paying attention to the hottest headlines in fashion this week? Here are some you just can’t miss! BagBliss has fallen in love with her new Yves Saint Laurent patent continental wallet (still available on Bluefly!), Coquette shows off some naughty but nice vintage gloves, I’m Not Obsessed knows where to get the look of Marc Jacobs’ ruffle pumps for less, and KRiSTOPHER DUKES tells a tale of unforbidden fruit-- we know you’ll want to see that! Check out what’s happening this week in the fabulous world of the fashion blog-o-sphere!
Now, I’m a child of the 80s, but looking at pictures of my mom when she was my age with her long, super-straight hair and billowy shirts almost immediately sent me on a seventies-inspired shopping frenzy....almost. Fringe still makes me cringe a bit, but Gucci’s ‘devendra’ boots might just change my mind with their luxe gold hardware and perfectly shaped toe. But for a much less expensive foray into decades past, feel free to sneak into your parents’ closet when they’re not home, and see what you find… and then later, use the loot to extract any, uh, noteworthy stories about past lives. Click on my slideshow to see five fashion-forward flower child styles!
There’s just something so serene about home decor that’s made of bamboo, and I think I’ve figured it out: it’s lightweight, perfect for summer, incredibly eco-friendly, and best of all, it reminds me of hungry pandas. So really, what’s not to love? From cereal bowls to room dividers and even wall flats, there are so many ways to add some to your home, and many can be found in the Hive! We especially love the look of bamboo bathroom accessories - they give the room such a fresh, tropical feel. Can’t wait to get your paws on this trend? Check out my SLIDESHOW for five ways to make your home more eco- and panda- friendly!
Ever come across someone who seems to have your dream life? It’s no fantasy for some- check out Stylehiver FoxyFiorentina. A self-described American transplant doing online high-end fashion retail in Florence, Italy, her hive is proof that international influence can only do good things for your style. We love how her lust-worthy list of favorite designers is only rivaled by a longer list of places she’d like to visit, and the way she’s equally happy creating her own wares as she is lying on the beach. It’s this combination of ambition and imagination that has us so hooked on her hive! Check out my slideshow to see five favorite looks from Stylehiver FoxyFiorentina.
