Next Big Thing: Cassie Kogler of New York Couture

Last year we featured Cassie Kogler‘s journey from freak to fashion phenom. Since then, she and her flamboyantly fresh line New York Couture have caught fire. Fit for a punk princess, each of Cassie’s one-of-a-kind pieces are hand cut, sewn, and detailed. New York Couture is now sold in over 20 boutiques in Canada, Japan, Panama, and the states (including Patricia Field‘s boutique in NYC). Cassie isn’t surprised she’s Stylehive’s Next Big Thing. “I used to tell people in high school that I was going to be famous. I didn’t know for what...I guess I know now smileClick READ MORE to find out more about Cassie. Click SEE SLIDESHOW of her sizzling hot limited pieces! Click WATCH VIDEO to see Cassie featured on MTV’s True Life: “I’m Going To Fashion Week.”

Next Big Thing: APRIL77 Makes Clothes You Can Listen To (Or Is it Tunes You Wear?)

APRIL77 has been making punk-inspired clothes since 2002, but now the French label has gone a step further - their punky clothes now play punky music! When you buy their skinny Joey jean or Manchester collared shirt with guitar-pick pocket, each has a little tag with a scratch off that reveals a code that gets you a free MP3 single from the latest band on their new label: APRIL77RECORDS. “The inspiration comes from our love of music,” explains head of worldwide press Laura Camille Saglio. ”Brice Partouche, founder of APRIL77, has been a musician – drummer and guitarist – since his teens, and the creation of his fashion label was motivated by that in the first place - just to find the clothes he and his friends were looking for. And to look like their idols!” Click READ MORE to find out more about the label’s new label. Click SEE SLIDESHOW for their rebel clothes and snot-nosed bands! Click WATCH VIDEO for a video from their first band The Red Hearts.

Next Big Thing: Michele Scholnick Branches Out

What started out as a whim turned into a career for jewelry designer Michele Scholnick. While in graduate school, Michele took some art classes for fun and within a mere two weeks, she was hooked. As a child, Michele’s mother would use bare branches on the way to school to explain the concept of negative space.  And now, Michele’s branches have been seen in Life and Style, WWD, In Style, and Lucky. Last week, we premiered our Next Big Thing feature with Paola Hernandez, and today we’re excited to have Michelle as our next, Next Big Thing. “I’m really flattered! And a bit relieved,” Michelle tells Stylehive. “I still have days where I wonder if anyone other than my mother is going to like my work!” Click READ MORE for our interview with Michele, and SEE SLIDESHOW for her modern, organic pieces.

Next Big Thing: Mexico’s Fashion Phenom Paola Hernandez

In only two years, designer Paola Hernandez has exploded across the Mexican fashion scene. Already featured in spreads in Spanish language Elle, Marie Claire, and Harper’s Bazaar, among others, the 25-year-old designer is a south of the border phenom. Think of her as Mexico’s Christian Siriano - a young designer with a mature, avante garde sensibility beyond her years. Which is why I’m so excited to be kicking off our new “Next Big Thing” feature with Paola! “It is an honor to be the first Next Big Thing,” Paola tells Stylehive. “I love my work and sharing it with others. So it is always an honor to be appreciated.” Click READ MORE to find out more about Paola, WATCH VIDEO for her Spring/Summer 2008 collection, and SEE SLIDESHOW for pieces from her Fall/Winter collection.
