Stylehive was out celebrating the 10th Anniversary of Gen Art’s Styles International Design Competition at the Sunglass Hut store in Soho, where we caught up with the fabulous host, Gossip Girl star and self-proclaimed “sunglasses fiend” Michelle Trachtenberg. Michelle looked absolutely stunning in her Diane Von Furstenberg dress and was like a kid in a candy store while trying on all the hot new summer shades. When it sunglasses, Michelle told Stylehive, “I do one extreme or the other, I either like really big, really dark, classic square frames or I do aviators. A Jackie O, dark plastic frame is great year round. But it’s fun to switch it up and have an aviator for the summer. And sometimes I’ll do like a Ray-ban Wayfarer, those are my three go-tos.” Click READ MORE for more on the new and improved Sunglass Hut and check out my slideshow for my favorite styles including a pair Ms. Trachtenberg snagged for herself.
Paris Hilton swears that she’s done with high-priced hair extensions, which is why she’s bringing her latest branding effort – Clipin-Go by Paris Hilton – to the masses (or at least those of us who live near a Sally Beauty Supply store). The line of modacrylic hair extensions comes in 10 natural looking shades, which will set you back a mere $79.99. Whether or not you think Paris is a beauty icon, you can’t deny she knows a thing or two about always looking camera-ready. Paris spilled to Stylehive all about her new line, and shared some other get-gorgeous tips. Click READ MORE for our exclusive Q&A with the hair-care heiress.
Makeup artists can seriously be magicians sometimes. They just whip out their bag of tricks, throw a bunch of stuff together, and all of a sudden you look like the most fabulous version of yourself. Have you ever tried to follow them step by step? It’s almost impossible! Fortunately, I am now in the position where I get to meet the magicians themselves, and luckily for us, they’re nicer than the real magicians, and more than willing to share their secrets. Stylehive has tons of cool stuff, no doubt, but what makes this site really special is the people. And Jami Rodriguez is one of the best. Her Jami Rodriguez Jewelry is gorgeous, fun, and funky - statement pieces that can turn a black tee and jeans into a rock star look. Jami took some time away from her artistry to speak exclusively with Stylehive, so click READ MORE for my interview and also check out my SLIDESHOW of my fave Jami jewels!

If you’re anything like me, you suffer from a severe case of Time Management Disorder and live in a continual state of being approximately 15 minutes late for EVERYTHING. There’s nothing worse than going out and feeling hideously self-conscious about your appearance, so until I can learn how to better budget my time, learning tricks of the trade that will get me looking presentable in under a minute is essential! This is such a fashion/entertainment industry scenario: you develop intense phone relationships with people in the business, never once seeing their faces, then meet them at a party and exclaim, “So that is what you look like!” That is exactly what happened when I rolled up to Damon Dash at FIT’s Annual All-Star Salute Gala at the Rainbow Room. Damon and I had a brief professional relationship when I worked for RZA and Damon was CEO of Roc-A-Fella Records. Rapper Ol’ Dirty Bastard, RZA’s cousin, was just released from jail and Roc-A-Fella had signed him. So phone convos between Damon and I ensued, but we never met. At the gala, I gushed about Wu-Tang and the craziness surrounding ODB and arranged to meet him at his office where I could really pick Damon’s brain. In return, I got a huge dose of inspiration and a little window into what magic is really made of. Click READ MORE for more about Damon’s latest endeavor!
Although it wasn’t much of a shock, it was truly a disappointment to see Shannon get the boot on Make Me A Supermodel. She demonstrated iron will, fierce determination, and bulletproof confidence from beginning to end- all of which served her well in establishing her as a consistent favorite amongst the judges. Blame it on cockiness or the mounting stress, or maybe just bad luck, but after failing to deliver in last week’s goth-themed challenge, Shannon was put up for elimination against Ronnie and his loyal army of fans who have helped him persevere by saving him from elimination week after week- and as expected, she was the one to get the boot. Stylehive just spoke to the 6 foot tells-it-like-it-is stunner to get the scoop on her elimination, the truth about her feud with Perry, and more.
Sherri Ziesche opened up Salon in the Russian Hill area of San Francisco because she wanted a place in her neighborhood that she would go to! Salon provides a high level of personal attention and professionalism, but at the same time, is chic and friendly. Known for their quick blow-outs that let you walk in after work and get straight to your hot date or a wild evening, guests even get a complimentary espresso or glass of Prosecco during their treatment. Before I got a fabulous haircut from the talented Kelly who used Shu Uemura‘s new hair care line (which I love!), the lovely Sherri took some time with me to share her top five must have hair products.
There’s certainly no shortage of designers who strive to incorporate sustainability into their work, but there are a few whose designs embody the true essence of sustainability. Natalie “Alabama” Chanin is one such designer. From imaginative home decor and organic cottons to a limited-edition jewelry line, the intricate handmade designs that make up her Alabama Chanin label are just as important as the local communities and artisans who produce them. I spoke to Natalie about her current projects and extensive list of endeavors, and she was incredibly gracious in answering all of our questions. Read on to learn more about the concepts behind her work, the artisans who transform them into reality, and the projects that are keeping this deeply rooted designer on her toes.
Like a fireworks display where you don’t know what is coming up next but you just know it’s going to be awesome, Justin Giunta is an explosive show of talent and color. Between designing his much-adored Subversive Jewelry line, painting fine art, and carrying the title of CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalist, Justin found a second to chat it up with me about everything, from where he finds inspiration to infinite pearls of wisdom. Read on about the design phenom who has got the fashion world’s knickers all in a twist.
On last week’s episode of Make Me A Supermodel, the models were thrilled to learn they’d be getting out of the city and going on a ski trip. Let there be no confusion though- this was no break from the crazy challenges and intense stress, rather, the madness was just being moved to a new location. To spice things up further, the group was told that the contestant who performed the worst during the day’s photo shoot would be sent back to city all alone. Frankie, failed to remain photo-ready while slip sliding down an icy hill, which earned him a one way ticket back to the big apple. Stylehive just spoke to the Fabio-esque model hopeful to get the scoop.
I got the chance to chat with designer Malan Breton after the Project Runway finale show during fashion week- I mean, who better to weigh in on the competition than a Runway alum? Even though Malan didn’t make it to the finale back in season 3, he definitely knows a thing or two about the stress and craziness that go along with putting together a collection- he has shown several times, including during this past season.
Read on for his thoughts on the final show and the looks he’s loving for spring.
Macedonian born designer Ivana Koceva combines the two worlds of architecture and fashion design. Ivana K. appeared in the London fashion scene just two years ago, yet the label has since attracted a lot of attention from buyers worldwide. The style of this transcendental designer is modern and architectural with reference on costumes from the past in the construction. Focusing on a subtle color palette, Ivana K’s high end tailoring follows the individual’s anatomical lines, emphasizing the feminine form and creating a strong, yet feminine, silhouette for women. Read on as Ivana talks to us about her heritage, her favorite designers, what she would be doing if she wasn’t a designer, and more.
