There’s something about wearing white that makes me feel all summery and Marilyn Monroe-like. You know, a little bit sweet, a little bit saucy. But I didn’t really want to chit-chat about divas from yesteryear. No, I’d like to share my passion for emerging designers. Whether it’s super modern stylings from Cake, the retro-chic vibe of Rose La Biche or art you can wear from Dror – there’s bound to be something for everyone. I even added a thing or two for the boys. Soap, belt, t-shirt – it’s the least I could do. So without further ado, I give you WHITE……
Stylehive was out celebrating the 10th Anniversary of Gen Art’s Styles International Design Competition at the Sunglass Hut store in Soho, where we caught up with the fabulous host, Gossip Girl star and self-proclaimed “sunglasses fiend” Michelle Trachtenberg. Michelle looked absolutely stunning in her Diane Von Furstenberg dress and was like a kid in a candy store while trying on all the hot new summer shades. When it sunglasses, Michelle told Stylehive, “I do one extreme or the other, I either like really big, really dark, classic square frames or I do aviators. A Jackie O, dark plastic frame is great year round. But it’s fun to switch it up and have an aviator for the summer. And sometimes I’ll do like a Ray-ban Wayfarer, those are my three go-tos.” Click READ MORE for more on the new and improved Sunglass Hut and check out my slideshow for my favorite styles including a pair Ms. Trachtenberg snagged for herself.
One day back in 1959, a desperate housewife took a dozen colorful dresses made by her dressmaker and set them up for sale at an orange juice stand. From this simple beginning, a legend was born. Within five years, it seemed almost every American woman was sporting one of Lilly Pulitzer’s simple sheath dresses in an eye-popping print. Lilly became a favorite at resorts and country clubs nationwide and even Jacqueline Kennedy became a fan. And while the Lilly Pulitzer label continues to manufacture clothes today, the early vintage dresses and skirts of the 1960s and 1970s still hold a special charm. Sunny San Francisco days call for lazy mornings, leisurely walks, and long brunches, so when the weekend finally rolls around, head over to Foreign Cinema. Tucked away in SF’s lively Mission district, the restaurant is known for the foreign and independent films shown in the outdoor courtyard, during which guests can dine and drink to their hearts’, stomachs’, and minds’ content, though brunch is equally delectable. I wandered down to the “industrial-chic” establishment a few Saturday mornings ago to see for myself, and let’s just say my go-to brunch place across from my apartment has some serious, high-ceilinged and white tableclothed competition. Of all the bright colors making the rounds this spring, I’m definitely favoring all things in the hue of electric blue! This color is undoubtedly striking, but not in that overly loud, obnoxious, paranoia-inducing kind of way. Unlike most bright colors, this one complements virtually every skin-tone and looks phenomenal set against all hair colors. Not only that, it looks incredible paired with every color period, from basic black to roaring red to punchy pink to glittery gold and on and on- color-coordinating mishaps are a non-issue when you throw this shade into the mix. So add some spark to your look and check out my SLIDESHOW for hot finds in this electrifying shade.

Stylehive is full of real style experts - real people who work in the field every day, not crazy TV talking heads who shout fashion pronouncements like their Botox allowance depends on it! Take Pippie Flannigan (what a name!) from St. Petersburg, Florida. She joined Stylehive just a couple of weeks ago, and wrote in her profile: “I’m just a girl who works in the intimates department at the local Macy’s. I just bought some awesome sunglasses that I did not include in this slideshow. I didn’t want the entire universe running out and buying them. Forgive me. But I did include 10 other favorites! I’m especially partial to big shades that make you look like an alien and edgy shades that set you apart from the crowd. And it should go without saying that aqua Ray-Ban Wayfarers are friggin’ hot sauce. And because so many of us have the ability to lose our shades the minute a summer margarita hits our lips, there’s some affordable options in here as well. So get to clicking people!

Where else can you walk in empty-handed and then emerge with a three-drawer dresser and a package of heat-and-eat Swedish meatballs? Nowhere. Furniture from IKEA is like a pair of Levi’s.. everyone has one somewhere. But at the same time, their stuff can sometimes be like a logo-drenched handbag - virtually screaming IKEA, no matter what you pair it with in your home. But not ALL of their stuff! Click SEE SLIDESHOW for 10 IKEA pieces that don’t look like they fell off a Volvo.

Raise your hand if you’ve been using the same ordinary silver corkscrew/souvenir shop keychain bottle opener for longer than you can remember… ahh, I love being right. The barware you use is just as crucial, if not more crucial than the actual drinks themselves, so it’s definitely time to update these oh-so-necessary gadgets. I’ve come up with ten corkscrews and bottle openers that are reason enough to throw a party (like you really need an excuse), and you can bet these ones won’t get lost in that cluttered kitchen drawer.
