The best part about finding sales is not that I can shop for my favorite things for super low prices. The favorite part about sales is that I can share the sales with all my friends so they can save too! Decorating your home can be a huge expense since there are so many things to buy like furniture, bedding, and even artwork. Luckily, there’s Decor Deals, so it’s even a greater joy to share the deals that can be found for over 50% off the original retail price. If you’re going to be entertaining a lot during the holiday season, a nice pair of stainless steel salad servers is a must have at any dining room table. The Dorado salad servers used to be over $40 but you can snag them for $16.95. Mirrors can also be a huge expense (and totally worth it when you glimpse your gorgeous self), but I’ve found the Turner Portrait Mirror for $149.99 down from $500! Click over to my slideshow to see all the must have deals that will keep your home well decorated and your wallet happy.
As an obsessive bargain shopper (I rarely go a week without at least stepping foot into a Forever 21), I’ve developed a pretty keen eye for spotting designer look-alikes for less, not only at super-cheap stores that are known for popping out runway replicas, but on the racks of mid-range contemporary stores like Bebe too! For example, this Knit Bustier Full Zip Dress at Bebe touts a reasonable $89 price tag, but in comparison to its designer twinzie, this Lisa Marie Fernandez “Leigh” Dress ($425), it’s a total steal! True, LMF’s is a little more structurally body-con with its neoprene fabric, but quite frankly I think Bebe’s is more flattering with its banded detail and breathable fabric (not to mention more forgiving after a batch of holiday cookies)!
All I want for Christmas is ... something shining, sparkling, portable and it would be great if it smelled deliciously feminine too. Estee Lauder must have seen my wishlist because they’re back with their gorgeously packaged solid perfumes. The Glimmering Take-Out Compact is a cute gold compact in the shape of a take-out carton, complete with mini gold chopsticks and overflowing with dazzling jewels. As if the beautiful design wasn’t enough, it houses Estee Lauder’s popular and classic scent, Pleasures, in solid fragrance form. Dazzlingly eye-catching, it’s small enough to throw into a tote of purse, or leave it at home to brighten up a dresser or bathroom counter, but holds enough fragrant solid scent to last a long while. It makes a wonderful gift for a loved one, or as the perfect holiday scent for yourself!

You’ve probably noticed that sweater dresses are everywhere at the moment, and most of them are pretty short - perfect for this season’s over-the-knee boots, especially with a pair of cute tights. If you want a great selection of sweater dresses in multiple styles, check out the what we have to offer - that’s where I got this V-necked grey sweater dress, which is very comfortable and flattering to boot - and many other styles, colors and designs, too! I love this trend, but I think you have to be careful with it if you’re the kind of person who usually gets warm indoors and wants to take off your sweater. Last thing you want is to be sitting there sweating in the office all day. Or even a looser, more flowing style would help you stay cooler. If it’s long enough, you can also lose the leggings or tights. However you style it, this is one trend you’ll be able to get a lot of mileage out of!

Aside from the joys of gift-giving and eating till your stomach’s content, the holidays are also about packing in as much relaxation and “me” time as you possibly can before it’s time to once again hit the books, the office, or that list of New Year’s resolutions. So why not really leave it all behind and unwind at this beachfront resort in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt? The Grand Rotana Resort and Spa is like an oasis of luxury and pampering, boasting gorgeous ocean views, tropical landscaping, and 5-star accommodations that will be sure to have you rejuvenated by your trip’s end (or just really unwilling to return to the “real world")! Take advantage of your seaside surroundings with a snorkeling or windsurfing adventure, or simply rest the day away at the Asian-inspired Zen spa that’s designed to make you feel your best, even after a whole season of overindulgence. I enjoy a good crafting afternoon as much if not more than the next girl. But some projects I start often end up unfinished because I’m following instructions by some kind of wunderkid designer that thinks sewing an evening gown is easy. These kinds of projects then leave me feeling thoroughly defeated and uncreative. That was until I discovered the blog P.S.- I Made This, a DIY blog run by New York City-based lifestyle, design, and style expert Erica Domesek. Driven by her mantras “re-imagine, re-use, and re-invent” and “I see it, I like it, I make it,” she reinterprets trends in an easy and inventive way. Nothing she makes looks like it comes from a second-rate craft fair, yet her steps are simple and doable for any craft-savvy mortal. She starts with a simple inspiration collage right from your most current magazines and fashion shows and then has visual instructions that take you through the construction. Some of my favorites pull right from the fall runways-- her take on the lace bow headband, faux fur vest and embellished shoulder pads are as easy as pie to make, but look super stylish. They’re perfect for all your holiday parties, or an answer to all those holiday gifts! Want to learn how to make those and many more? Check out P.S.-I Made This now!
Lady Gaga is on the cover of the January issue of ELLE looking staggeringly normal- a quality we’d never thought we’d attribute to the songstress. Of course, “normal” in her case also happens to be quite pretty, which isn’t always the first thing you notice when you take into account her affinity for outrageous, scene-stealing costumes and heavy makeup. In the issue she opens up about recurring themes in her work, saying “I feel that if I can show my demise artistically to the public, I can somehow cure my own legend. I can show you so you’re not looking for it. I’m dying for you on domestic television-- here’s what it looks like, so no one has to wonder.” Somehow I’m convinced we’ll always wonder about Lady Gaga even with this new insight, especially if you consider that seeing a pared down version her is about as rare as seeing her don pants, but it’s definitely intriguing to see a new side of the enigmatic artist.

Living so close to Silicon Valley, it’s no wonder that all my best guy friends have some varying degree of nerdiness. And just so you know, the rumors about nerds being socially awkward are totally untrue. (For the most part, anyway!) Whether it’s obsessions about Apple products to Star Wars memorabilia, they’re surprisingly hard to shop for because they already have everything they’re obsessed with. So my job is to find something either really unexpected or something that they need and will never get for themselves. For something unexpected, I’d like to give the Chumby One to any of my friends who are addicted to knowing the latest sports scores, Twitter, the weather, and just the internet in general. I’ve also gotten lost with a few of my friends while out driving so someone unlucky on the roads would be a perfect candidate for a GPS navigator like the TomTom ONE. Take a look at my slideshow for more tech gift ideas he’ll love and appreciate!
I won’t lie—I’ve been known to kick-start the party on more than one previously-empty dance floor. And of course, I’m always down to incorporate some kind of eye-catching shine into my wardrobe, whether it’s in the form of sequins, studs, or a statement necklace. I would say that it’s this inner Beyonce in me that makes me attracted to these embellished booties, but realistically I think just about any fashionable gal could pull these off, whether or not you’re in love with the limelight. The Rosegold “Halle” Suede Stud Booties come in both black and gray suede—perfect for holiday parties and New Years’ festivities—and have the perfect amount of light-reflecting shimmer with its adjustable fold-over cuff without looking over-the-top biker babe or hardcore rocker chick like other stud-happy styles. If you’re looking for a shiny new pair of booties for the end-of-year, these are edgy yet wearable enough to carry you through the season and not just till the 2010 ball drops!

As holidays with my family now involve three energetic dogs and two adorable nephews under the age of 6, not to mention unpredictable Chicago weather, my uniform for looking presentable yet comfortable involves boots, skinnies and tunic sweaters. Simple, functional, stylish. The newest addition to said boot arsenal is the Mossimo Supply Co. Katherine Leather Engineer Boot ($49.99), which my sister managed to find for me in-store after I waited too long and they sold out online. Sis, I owe you one!! I love these boots. These boots are made for walkin’. Rugged, tough, timeless. They will require some breaking in but so far, I love wearing them. Anyone else score a pair of these? This fabulous fashion find was brought to you by our friends from The Budget Babe!
Styles and trends have been done and re-done over the years, and Chanel tweed is one of these such styles. While many others have tried to imitate, no one does it quite as well. Since it’s been established that Chanel tweed suits and clothing are second to none, they’ve taken the iconic textured fabric and transferred it to their cosmetics. Chanel has a new “tweed” blush, Les Tissages, a mixture of pink and beige tones on a palette of silky powders that help give you a naturally rosy glow all through winter and right into the summer months! It’s two shades of color intertwined to resemble the iconic Chanel tweed fabric and comes in a variety of selections so you can find one that blends to your skin tone perfectly. It’s perfect as a turn-to cosmetic for yourself, or grab an extra for a mom or sister as a pretty and practical gift for the holidays!

With the buzz all around statement jewelry and multiple chain necklaces, Banana Republic has a few really beautiful and affordable pieces for sale right now like this Curtain Call Fringe Necklace ($69.50) and the romantic Applique Mixed-Media Necklace ($59.50). They’re not only a perfect addition to complement your holiday party outfits, but they’d also make fabulous gifts for all your fashionable friends! Visit Coquette for more holiday season trends!
I really love the holidays. All the stores are playing my favorite Christmas songs, coffee shops have special holiday themed drinks, and the overall sentiment of goodwill and cheer is as infectious as H1N1. Unfortunately, my home still looks like it’s summer with linen pillows on my sofa and patio furniture still hanging out in the backyard. So it’s definitely time to have my house catch up with the holiday season. That doesn’t mean I’m covering my home with reindeer and snowmen though! I can’t wait to add a few faux fur throws to cozy up to when the nights get chilly. The holidays are also a time where guests come and go through my front doors so these holiday guest towels would be perfect in my bathroom. Take a look at my slideshow to see more decor items that will get you ready for the holidays!
You’ve got to admit that as much as you used to dread holiday get-togethers as a kid because your Aunt Millie wouldn’t quit pinching your cheeks, she never failed to give your face some fabulous color. But now that you’re old enough to appreciate a rosy glow and your relatives have ceased fussing and cooing over you, you have to resort to cosmetics to get that same natural flush… unless of course you’d rather stand outside in the cold and let Jack Frost nip at your cheeks for awhile. Pain doesn’t have to equal beauty, though, and since the winter season’s cold weather really likes to dry out your skin, opt for a cream or gel blush (as opposed to powder) to get that tickled-pink look without drying out your face. The key to natural-looking rosiness is to stick with a non-waxy formula—like this sheer multipurpose stick from Nars or Maybelline’s lightweight cream—for ultimate blendability that will still let your skin breathe beneath the color. Check out the slideshow for the selection of my favorite winter-friendly blushes!
