As a kid, I fondly remember being far more excited about Hanukkah than say, my own birthday. I mean come on- eight nights of presents is so much better than one! Of course, that tradition sadly ended when I was around 10, and not long after, I was a tad crushed to find that the menorah I so diligently crafted in preschool (eight Lifesavers-turned-candle holders glued to a wooden plank- so modern!) had been replaced with a stainless steel one-- growing up is tough. Nevertheless, I still look forward to the holiday with the same childlike excitement. Hanukkah begins at sundown this Friday, so click on the slideshow to see an assortment of Hanukkah trinkets and treats-- jelly donuts and latkes not included!
Faux fur vests served as an edgy way for us to warm up in the fall, and now that the weather has officially reached a frigid level, the trend has appropriately evolved into full-length jackets. To keep the furry look fresh, we’ve spotted some of these cozy coats straying from the typical tan and black with patterns like faux mink and leopard print, putting a fresh spin on a distinctly Old Hollywood-inspired look. But retro-glamorous outerwear doesn’t have to come at a celebrity-worthy price. For example, while this Graham & Spencer Leopard Print Coat from Free People is super chic for the chilly days ahead, it’s hardly a steal at $759! This similarly spotted version from Topshop is equally stylish and just as warm for a mere $190! I mean, they’re both made from faux fur, obviously, so how does one justify the extra $569? Beats me—if given the choice, I definitely vote for the bargain!
Chapsticks and lip balms have been around for a long time and while they are still a staple for many, the basic idea and design has stayed the same. There are shimmer options, popular flavors and tint-of-color choices available, but not much thought has been given to the overall look and design. Until now! Evolution of Smooth (EOS) has come out with the new Smooth Sphere lip balm that nourishes and smooths the skin and is also fun to use! It comes in a unique sphere shape and bright, lively colors that make it cute and convenient to throw into a purse and carry with you. EOS Lip Spheres are full of shea butter and vitamin E to protect and nourish your lips and devoid of parabens and petrolatum. It’s 100% natural, 95% organic and comes in yummy flavors like Honeysuckle Honeydew, Summer Fruit and Sweet Mint so you’ll want to smooth on EOS Lip Spheres for a pretty pout all the time! It glides on colorless so it’s the perfect lip moisturizer to wear on it’s own or layered with your favorite color. They’re adorable, colorful and make your lips mistletoe-kisses ready—why not buy a bunch and use them as a sweet and playful stocking stuffer?
Price: $3.99

The holiday season is probably one of the most strenuous times of the year for many people. I have friends who are crossing state lines (or even crossing the Atlantic Ocean!) to see their families back home. Luckily for me, most of my family lives within a 20 mile radius. Nonetheless, I do my fair share of traveling because I have many dear friends around the world and with airline ticket prices at an all time low, I might be going on a few trips in the future. If you don’t know already, the TSA requires any liquid or gel products be 3.4 ounces or less to be carried onto the airplane. So if you only own full size items of your favorite beauty and skincare products, now’s the time to downsize. While some people may not recommend it, I actually like to use this time to try out new products because trying out a smaller sized product means I feel less guilty if I don’t like it. One of my favorite picks is the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Travel Setwhich boasts some of their most popular products in one set. Take a look at my slideshow for all my travel and TSA friendly selections!
I’ve been terribly fond of anything Americana these days: plaids, rugged leather, broken in boots and Old West-inspired pieces. I was thrilled when I discovered new collection by Nine West to add to my true vintage finds. Their Vintage America collection is inspired by the rich American heritage of the Old West and based on the ruggedly beautiful pieces whose craftsmanship only get better with time. The collection uses lots of suede, hardware details, straps, studs, plaid, faux fur as well as a good bit of the American staple, denim. Some stellar standouts from the fall line are the “Epponie” short suede clog boot and the “Jargon” a high healed lug sole lace up boot with fur detail. And don’t fret if you’ve already got all your boots for winter— the line will continue for spring with rugged sandals, jewelry and bags that evoke the craftsmanship of the Southwest. Check out the SLIDESHOW to see the styles and shop them all at ninewest.com.
If you know a teen that’s seriously into fashion—and I don’t mean in the sense of namedropping Chanel and Louboutin like they’re going out of style—then it’s going to take more than a sketchbook and Wii Fashion Party to contain their passion and talent potential. Why not let them experience Fashionista University? It’s a seven week, Saturday-only program that introduces middle school through college-age tweens and teens to the ins and outs of the fashion industry. With courses like “Fashion Design 101” and “PR Prep 101”, they’ll learn everything from creating and presenting a collection to insider public relations expertise. They can choose to focus on one aspect of fashion, or participate in both courses and gain a more comprehensive understanding. The NYC-based program also features trips to New York Fashion Week! Courses are $600 apiece or $1000 for both. Registration for the Winter semester ends January 8th, and classes begin January 16th, so go to FashionistaUniversity.com to register and learn more!
One person that everyone loves showering and spoiling with gifts is the baby. We love gifting things to babies because, well, they’re just so darn cute! And everything made for them is also just so darn cute! Honestly, I believe that if we could get away with it, many of us would still be wearing soft fleece pjs with footies attached, or eating dinner off personalized plates and silverware with tiny animals marching across. Alas, we grew up as did our tastes, and although we can’t use many of the super soft, extra-cuddly or painfully cute clothes and accessories that infants get to, we now have the means to buy them and provide them to the babies in our life. Whether it’s your baby’s first holiday, a new niece or nephew that you’re welcoming, or a close friend’s mini-me, there’s a vast variety of brightly colored toys, plush pastel blankies, itty-bitty garments and beautifully shining accessories that are admittedly a little superflous but undeniably lust-worthy and still very practical. Click on the slideshow for some favorite gift ideas to show the littlest one how much you love them.
As popular as cut-out booties are nowadays, I have to say they’re getting a little redundant. After all, there are only so many places you can strategically cut holes in a leather shoe before they start to look like sandals… and let’s face it—in these exponentially declining temperatures, there’s hardly any room left in your closet more sandals, of all things. But something about these tall Matiko Sudi Cut Out Boots is refreshingly unique—maybe it’s the cool mosaic cut-out design, or maybe it’s the fact that they’re still recognizably boots despite their aesthetic modifications. Show some skin (or skin-colored tights) through the peekaboo cut-outs or have a little fun with the design by wearing brightly-colored leggings underneath—or even sparkly tights for a sneak peek of shimmer.

Recently, star of “The City” and fashion designer Whitney Port revealed her daily beauty routine secrets to fans on her official blog. I think she’s a beautiful girl who always manages to achieve a fresh, pretty glow without looking overdone, so I was admittedly curious to see precisely which products she uses. I did my best to track down each product (most are available at Sephora.com), so hopefully I got the right ones. Note: Whitney did not specify which Maybelline mascara she uses, so I linked to my personal fave, Define-A-Lash. Read on to catch Whitney’s step by step beauty routine, brought to you by The Budget Babe.
I have to admit that while I work in the notoriously food phobic fashion industry, I love all aspects of food. If you’re ever a fly on the wall of the Stylehive office, you can hear most of us gab about the latest cheap eats or restaurants we’ve been to. So of course, I’ve got to have some fashion accessories that look like food like my Ritz Cracker earrings and gum drop necklace. My fingers have been feeling lonely from the lack of food related goodies, but today’s the day! I found these super charming Meringue Rings that look good enough to eat. These realistic treats may look like they’re made of sugar and egg whites, but it’s actually silicone. They come in three sizes and inexpensive enough to buy as stocking stuffers for all your food loving fashionista friends. Just don’t be tempted to nibble on them!
Price: $22

Another high-end fashion line makes its move to Target, just in time for the holidays. The edgy-chic Rodarte for Target collection will launch in Target stores and online on December 20th. I am loving the mix of hard/edgy and soft/girly in the collection. From x-ray prints and leopard-print sequin frocks, to lace and tulle dresses with bow belts, the collection is really affordable with prices ranging from $9.99 - $79.99. The collection will be in stores from December 20 through January 31, so if that’s not motivation to brave the holiday shopping crowds, I don’t know what is! Check back with Coquette for more news in designer collections and trends!
There are many people I know who decorate with a holiday theme immediately after Thanksgiving dinner and then there are people who don’t start until the last minute (aka the day before Christmas Eve). Either way, the tree is almost always the most important aspect of any Christmas decor. While some may argue the virtues over real versus faux trees, what good is it if it ends up totally naked? That’s why I’m here with ornaments of all shapes and sizes that will get your tree totally covered up. From collectible limited edition Swarovski crystals to the cutest cow ornament ever, there’s a whole world of ornaments out there. Add some DIY cranberry and popcorn garlands, tinsel, maybe some fake snow and you’re all set to wait for Santa to deliver his presents. Take a peek at my slideshow to see them all!
‘Tis the season for buying electric blankets, warm mittens and ice skates. But, it doesn’t have to be! Winter is also time for travel, and trip takers during the holiday season tend to flock toward hot spots — or anywhere where you don’t have to bundle up and face those chilling winter winds. If you’re heading out of town, (or just want to be prepared for the next swim season) strip down the fleece, wool and cashmere and warm up to some slinkier swimwear selections! 2010 collections are hotter than ever before, and you’re just one click away from packing your beach duffel for your winter getaway! Bandeaus, halters, string and strapless are all back, along with some more unconventional show-stoppers that’ll make you start drooling right onto your keyboard! This holiday, if you’re jetsetting to somewhere warm, bring along something to make everyone else on the beach drool too!
