I have to admit, there are a few pieces that Juicy Couture comes out with each season that I do find cute and worth having, but overall, the Juicy style is not for me. It’s especially not for me when I do pick up that one dress that I actually find attractive and have a minor heart attack from the ridiculous price tag attached to the simple, knit garment in my hands. Juicy Couture tracksuits were and still are, one of their most popular and best selling items, but again, I cannot feel good about handing over that sum of money just to buy something to lounge around in. While Juicy Couture still has a group of loyal followers, the majority of us have seen enough overly-tanned, bright bottle-blonde girls in head-to-toe Juicy to last a lifetime. But even though I find it irritating to see grown women decked out in full-on, blinged out, in your face Juicy Couture, tiny tots happen to look absolutely precious in the pint-sized version. Something about the contrasting prints, comfy knits and clashing colors just looks adorable and trendy on the six and under set. Although I do not feel the urge to engrave my name onto all that I own, I have to admit that it does have its appeal. Whatever the reason, personalized gifts are just that—personal. As the weather gets colder and colder and I have to wear more layers than an onion has, that means I also have to switch over from iced tea to hot chocolate! I have a giant Audrey Hepburn/Breakfast at Tiffany’s themed mug that fills me up every time, but sometimes I just need a smaller sized cup so I don’t drink my weight in chocolate. That’s why Finnish designer Sami Rinne totally read my mind and made the Reindeer Mugs which are cute and functional! Yes, it may seem rather silly to wear shorts in winter, yet it’s so brilliant! I think it’s especially funny since I don’t particularly like wearing shorts in summer, yet there is something about layering the shorts over tights and wearing them with boots that make the seem more modest and less beach-bound teenybopper. But to do this trend right, you can’t just simply throw on your lightweight summer shorts over tights and expect it to work. Choose a winter weight fabric that’s appropriate for the season like wool or tweed for day or silk, leather or sequins for night. The one pair of shorts that can make the cross over? denim cut offs. They have a great rock and roll Erin Wasson feel when layered with legwear and cozy sweaters. As an obsessive bargain shopper (I rarely go a week without at least stepping foot into a Forever 21), I’ve developed a pretty keen eye for spotting designer look-alikes for less, not only at super-cheap stores that are known for popping out runway replicas, but on the racks of mid-range contemporary stores like Bebe too! For example, this Knit Bustier Full Zip Dress at Bebe touts a reasonable $89 price tag, but in comparison to its designer twinzie, this Lisa Marie Fernandez “Leigh” Dress ($425), it’s a total steal! True, LMF’s is a little more structurally body-con with its neoprene fabric, but quite frankly I think Bebe’s is more flattering with its banded detail and breathable fabric (not to mention more forgiving after a batch of holiday cookies)!
