I didn’t know it was possible for me to further my obsession with incredible modern furniture, but then along came Futil Design, the brainchild of Montreal-based designer Alexandre Berthiaume, and he’s literally given us something to flip over. 

His creations range from sofas made up of two primary pieces that are interchangeable and can be put together any which way to molded chairs that can be turned over to accommodate different seating styles, moods, or simply put, the desire to turn things around. 

Every aspect of his work shows the fun that lies in even the most streamlined pieces, with names like ‘Fat Bastard’ for the sofa system to ‘Flopy’ and ‘Flip Flop’ for the multi-positional chairs. See how the ‘Flip Flop Flap’ chair can function when turned on any side?  It just goes to show that modern design is much more accessible than you may think-- Futil Design pieces transcend that showroom feel and add a whimsical yet realistic touch.
