As summer nears its end, I'm trying to get the most out of all the comfy trends this season offered: maxi dresses, flowing tunics, playsuits...and the t-shirt dress. The best part about the latter is its versatility so I highly recommend purchasing one immediately if you don't own a version (check out my hive for a bunch of great options). Once you've found your fave, here's some inspiration on working the basic cotton frock for every activity.
At the OfficeBefore wearing your t-shirt dress to work, check to make sure it's not see-through. Many of these airy cotton dresses are a little too thin for a professional setting, but that can easily be fixed with a body shaper. Add sophistication with a thin belt (mine was actually $7 from Target's kids section!) and a pair of pumps. You can go for the obvious by throwing a cardigan over your dress but I prefer layering the dress over one of spring's popular sheer blouses, like this bow-tie one from Forever 21. Daytime ErrandsThe beauty of the t-shirt dress is it can be worn alone. But if you're in an accessorizing mood look for a low slung belt like my vintage one to keep thing casual. Having a bad hair day? Take a cue from stars like Rachel Bilson and pair a straw fedora with a pair of wayfarers, like these Persol frames. As for footwear, gladiator sandals are the perfect choice. To elongate the leg, look for nude, light metallic or tan sandals like mine from Steve Madden. Night OutThe straight silhouette of a t-shirt dress is the perfect base to play with volume. Create curves with a thick patent belt then top it off with a structured jacket or sweater with interesting sleeves, like my LaRok sparkler. I finished the look with red peep toes from Steve Madden and a Lia Sophia cocktail ring. To see photos of celebs wearing the long tee trend check out mystyle.com!
