As a kid, a trip to the roller rink meant two things: an excuse to eat Now ‘N Laters (stashed in my fanny pack, no less) and the unavoidable counting of the bruises upon returning home from hours upon hours of making friends with the pavement. Nowadays, it’s taken on a different meaning as the perfect setting for getting decked out in all of those quirky, retro little pieces you can’t seem to get away with anywhere else. Had to have those sequined shorts for a reason, didn’t you? Show them off along with your moves as you make your way around the rink, or bring back the 80s with an off-the-shoulder sweatshirt top for the ultimate in casual cool. Either way, you can’t go wrong, and at the very least, you’ll be remembered for something other than the time you spent hugging the floor. Check out my SLIDESHOW for five roller rink-ready looks!
You might think summer starts when the temperature finally reaches 80 degrees Fahrenheit, your roof deck opens up, and the beaches start charging admission, but you’re wrong. Summer doesn’t actually begin until you put on a fresh pair of flip-flops. Whether they’re the cheap plastic ones from a drug store, a work-appropriate leather pair, or a fancy bejeweled pair, flip-flops are the shoes of the season. Here are 10 that will let your feet take in the fresh air and sun – just don’t forget to paint your toes! We like a bright, punchy coral color like Coral Reef by Essie.
Of all the bright colors making the rounds this spring, I’m definitely favoring all things in the hue of electric blue! This color is undoubtedly striking, but not in that overly loud, obnoxious, paranoia-inducing kind of way. Unlike most bright colors, this one complements virtually every skin-tone and looks phenomenal set against all hair colors. Not only that, it looks incredible paired with every color period, from basic black to roaring red to punchy pink to glittery gold and on and on- color-coordinating mishaps are a non-issue when you throw this shade into the mix. So add some spark to your look and check out my SLIDESHOW for hot finds in this electrifying shade.
We’ve all been well informed that this season is ALL about color. From super bold shades to ultra subdued hues, it’s not what you wear, it’s the colors you wear it in! The clear favorite from the crayon box this season was yellow, especially blinding shades of day-glo neon - which illuminated just about every spring runway show. To keep from looking like a walking highlighter, take a cue from fashion big-wigs like ThreeasFour, Nanette Lepore, and Phillip Lim, and tame your blaring yellow ensembles with subdued separates in neutral shades. The blending is so harmonious, designers are now removing the middle man and creating single pieces using these contrasting tones. Check out my SLIDESHOW for awesome ways to get your neon+neutral on!
It would take countless amounts of time and web space to list every reason why we love YSL so much, but for now, I’ll just stick with one: they always manage to create handbags that hover somewhere between the classic appeal we appreciate and “it” bag status we crave. But then, the prices always seem to hover between $1,000 and, well, beyond. The swing bag is a prime example-- the shape is simple yet statement-making, and the muted metallic hue is just trendy enough while still maintaining the bag’s ability to function as an everyday option. But again, at $1,895, this isn’t your average everyday bag.
Some things are just better left in 2007, so that tote that you can fit your life into just isn’t going to cut it as your handbag of choice for the party of the year. That said, there are quite a few clutches that are very well worth hanging onto, but by the look of the ten super chic clutches we’re about to show you in our slideshow, picking just one isn’t going to be easy. Our solution: more parties means more party accessories, so clear your schedule and let those clutches come out to play!
