As a kid, a trip to the roller rink meant two things: an excuse to eat Now ‘N Laters (stashed in my fanny pack, no less) and the unavoidable counting of the bruises upon returning home from hours upon hours of making friends with the pavement. Nowadays, it’s taken on a different meaning as the perfect setting for getting decked out in all of those quirky, retro little pieces you can’t seem to get away with anywhere else. Had to have those sequined shorts for a reason, didn’t you? Of all the bright colors making the rounds this spring, I’m definitely favoring all things in the hue of electric blue! This color is undoubtedly striking, but not in that overly loud, obnoxious, paranoia-inducing kind of way. Unlike most bright colors, this one complements virtually every skin-tone and looks phenomenal set against all hair colors. Not only that, it looks incredible paired with every color period, from basic black to roaring red to punchy pink to glittery gold and on and on- color-coordinating mishaps are a non-issue when you throw this shade into the mix. We’ve all been well informed that this season is ALL about color. From super bold shades to ultra subdued hues, it’s not what you wear, it’s the colors you wear it in! The clear favorite from the crayon box this season was yellow, especially blinding shades of day-glo neon - which illuminated just about every spring runway show. To keep from looking like a walking highlighter, take a cue from fashion big-wigs like ThreeasFour, Nanette Lepore, and Phillip Lim, and tame your blaring yellow ensembles with subdued separates in neutral shades. It would take countless amounts of time and web space to list every reason why we love YSL so much, but for now, I’ll just stick with one: they always manage to create handbags that hover somewhere between the classic appeal we appreciate and “it” bag status we crave. But then, the prices always seem to hover between $1,000 and, well, beyond. The swing bag is a prime example-- the shape is simple yet statement-making, and the muted metallic hue is just trendy enough while still maintaining the bag’s ability to function as an everyday option.
