When given the opportunity to shed light on my favorite under-the-radar Stylehiver, I immediately thought of hlipner. With her, it is definitely quality over quantity. While she doesn’t have thousands of bookmarks, everything she does bookmark is impeccable. Her Hive showcases many of the up and comers of the indie design world as well as mainstream established designers. How I know I love this hive? I have started periodically checking back just to see if she has saved anything new and amazing. Why I know you’ll love this hive ... because everything is clean and well designed, and it is impossible not to be entranced. Check out my SLIDESHOW for some of my favorite items from her Hive and why I think they are simply stunning.

By now one pretty much has to have been living under a rock to not have heard of Etsy, but do you know about Ruby Lane? While Etsy is dedicated to all things handmade, Ruby Lane is a fabulous collection of handcrafted and manufactured items with a focus on antiques, collectibles, fine art, and jewelry. Buying items from a Ruby Lane shop is similar to buying from a seller on Etsy: most store owners explain their selling and return or exchange policies, afford potential buyers the opportunity to ask questions before making a purchase; some even offers sales, coupons, or other purchase incentives; and many invite commissions for custom work. Take an appreciative look at some of the hivelicious jewelry offered by indie designers who sell exclusively on Ruby Lane.
Christine and Olivia, founders of Small, have created a beautiful online magazine that highlights handmade items and indie designers of children’s products. Christine, studied fashion design at FIT, worked as a buyer in NYC and now has a children’s clothing line - Baby Bean Vintage Daywear. She lives in Dallas with her husband and two little girls. Olivia studied interior architecture and design and has worked in many different art and design areas in Australia and New York. She lives in New York with her husband and two children. As an independent designer, Christine often found it difficult to get exposure and press for her business because indies often cannot afford expensive PR firms or advertising in the larger magazines. With this as a backdrop, they decided to start Small. Together the pair set out to find those designers that were not being featured anywhere and to promote these smaller scale productions. They also wanted a project that they could work on together even though they now live far apart. Click READ MORE to check out the interview, and check out the slideshow for just a few of the designers featured in Small!
This is one of my favorite photos of Zoe Kravitz, daughter of Lenny Kravitz. Yellow is an awesome color for daytime plans, and black sunglasses help balance it out. It’s easy to keep the earthy style with a few wooden bracelets, or inexpensive but unique jewelry from stores like Urban Outfitters. Zoe’s outfit is a perfect mix in my book, blending indie with flirty. Of course, Zoe can pull it all together in a rock-star way too, seeing who her daddy is. Plus her peaceful day in the park look will never go out of style. Click thought my SLIDESHOW to see how you can get inspired from Zoe’s one-of-a-kind look.

Jennifer Egan is Gen Art‘s Los Angeles uber talent scout. She put together the indie design powerhouse‘s New Garde show last month, featuring three amazingly talented, up-and-coming designers: Jess Kamm, JMary, and Les Sang Des Betes’ Trang Chau. Eschewing the runway in favor of three still life tableaux Jen termed “dynamic installations,” the event was equal parts fashion show, and, given the designers’ avant garde leanings, performance art opening. Click WATCH VIDEO for the funky scene, and find out why Jen picked these three designers over everyone else in LA!
