At the Teen Choice Awards, actress Brittany Snow made a show-stopping splash on the blue carpet wearing a vibrant strapless floral minidress by Jill Stuart paired with ravishing red pumps. To prevent sensory overload, Brittany balanced this high-octane look by exercising accessory-restraint, selecting only two pieces- small diamond hoops and an oversized cocktail ring. A richly-colored dress like this one is almost always universally flattering and can beautifully enhance any complexion, just as it did for Brittany. The flirty florals make this dress perfect for summer, but with a little maneuvering, it can easily make the transition to fall- a slim cardigan, tights, a pair of funky booties and there ya go! Check out my SLIDESHOW for 5 fun and flirty dresses similar to Brittany’s that will keep you fashionably fabulous year-round.
At the 16th annual ESPY Awards, Heroes star Kristen Bell made a striking splash, showing off a hot new ‘do in a super hot ensemble that was uptown chic with a funky downtown edge . Kristen packed a lot of punch into her petite frame with a sassy strapless Jill Stuart dress paired with Jimmy Choo strappy sandals finished off with a gold frame clutch and statement-making accessories including a Bochic necklace and Amrapali bracelet for a fabulously fierce look that radiated confidence and more sex appeal than we’ve ever seen from the diminutive star. Check out my SLIDESHOW to get the look!
When you got legs that run for miles, you gotta flaunt ‘em, and that’s exactly what Gossip Girl Blake Lively did at the star studded premiere of The Dark Knight which she attended with on and off screen boyfriend Penn Badgley. Blake sported a studded Vena Cava romper and gave the look an added dose of glam with metallic Jimmy Choo pumps. While some may contest the chic-ness of the romper, I happen to love this style, if anything for the versatility. A black romper like Blake’s is basic enough to be worn with sandals for day and can easily be glamified with some chic pumps and fun accessories for a night out. Check out my SLIDESHOW for 5 day-to-night rompers similar to the one worn by this leggy beauty.
In stark contrast to the prim and proper style that defines Blair Waldorf, her character on the mega hit Gossip Girl,Leighton Meester seemed to be channeling the laid back, easy-chic style of her fictional frenemy Serena van der Woodsen on a recent shopping trip in NYC. Wearing an airy boho Jill Stuart maxi dress (by far the biggest trend this season), slouchy hobo bag by celebrity favorite Rebecca Minkoff, gladiator sandals and large shades, Leighton’s boho look is fun, flirty, carefree, and the overall perfect summertime style. Check out my SLIDESHOW to get the look.

We all know that black is a super-trend that belongs in the trend hall of fame, and that white is well on its way to claiming a spot as well, so what happens when you blend these two power forces together? You get one SUPER trend! Pairing black and white is not a revolutionary idea; however, this old-school idea has been given a new school twist this season resulting in styles that are funky, edgy, fun, and anything but safe and boring. The best part about this style? The dress does all the work for you. Accessories can be kept to a minimum; just zip it up, slip into your favorite pumps (any color goes), grab a clutch (again, any color goes), and you’re done! Wow, that was easy! Check out my SLIDESHOW for some awesome new-wave black and white styles.
While Lindsay’s outfit picks normally don’t thrill me, I have to say I am loving her handbag. On a recent stroll to, well, I have no idea where, she opted for this two-toned Jill Stuart stunner. Black and white on a handbag can look a bit dated but the patent finish gives it just the contemporary edge it needs, and it really pops against her otherwise black ensemble. You may remember Lohan was the face of Jill Stuart for their Fall 2007 campaign, and now it’s looking like she’s moved on to be their walking advertisement, as her coat is designed by Jill Stuart as well. You can catch all of the details on BagTrends here!
The layered look is a godsend for ladies like myself and Lindsay Lohan with long thin legs and thick, undefined waists. Sure, there are plenty of tips and tricks to create the illusion of a defined waist- some of which we’ve already covered, and more which we will be covering- but sometimes, notably on days when your mid-section is especially pronounced, the best solution for looking and feeling great is to layer it up. Lindsay is the master of the layers and manages to keep the look chic and sexy by not going too layer-happy and carefully selecting items that will complement her figure. Read on for tips on how to rock the look like La Lohan.
When it comes to dressing for your body type, just about everyone will tell you to accentuate your best features. Some girls are lucky enough to be very in tune with what works best on them, while others need a little guidance to steer them in the right direction. I have always maintained that the neckline is one of the sexiest areas on a woman’s body- no matter what your weight, shape, size, or build.
Here are ideas for bringing attention to your collar area in the right ways:
Leave it to indie darling Chloe Sevigny to pull off a look that is vintage, trendy, classic, and unique all at the same time. I spotted the Big Love star at the launch party for the Samsonite Black Label Trunk Collection- she’s actually the face of the series, who knew! I was pretty bummed to discover she wasn’t doing interviews, but luckily, I have friends in high places, who have friends in even higher places, and our good pal Micky Boardman - famed Paper Magazine editor and BFF to every noteworthy star and socialite - summoned Chloe over giving me just enough time to ask…
The overarching feel of the fall/winter 2008 collections was sleek sophistication mixed with high-impact glamour, mostly due to the fact that almost every designer had a serious case of accessory-fever. Almost all the looks in the shows were paired with either hats (from beret’s, to brim hats, to knits, to fedoras, to small hats, to big hats, and so much more), fancy hair pieces, fur boleros, layered necklaces, long leather gloves, and/or belts (either super-thick or super-thin but always super sleek- either individually, several at a time, or all piled on in a single look).
When I asked for his fall 2008 predictions,Vogue‘s editor-at large André Leon Talley told me there was going to be a move towards a new sensibility of romance with “rich gold- gold as Fort Knox- lot of gold tones, lots of metallic shine"- bear in mind, this interview took place on day one of fashion week- when no one really knows which direction the trends will move toward. I was a bit skeptical by André’s prediction at first- I mean, haven’t we had enough of the metallic craze? Apparently not, because but not surprisingly, he was right, and as the days went on and I hopped from one show to the next, I noticed that almost every collection was enlivened with the help of glimmery shimmery golds. We saw gold floral lamé dresses, gold trench-coats, sheer gold tops, gold bodice dresses, gold shift dresses, gold pintucked a-line skirts, gold pencil skirts, Matelasse gold, jacquard gold, shimmery gold, gold coins, gold leopards- you get the picture!
After seeing scores of fashion shows over seven days, I’ll be honest, all of the clothes start looking the same. Betsey Johnson and Philip Lim looking the same? What am I smoking, right? Unfortunately, nothing. So sometimes its good to take a step back, and then take two steps forward, to see the intricacies that drew you to the designs in the first place. Sometimes its the place where two divergent patterns meet. Sometimes its the intricate interplay of 4-5 separates. Sometimes its a simple shape used in a new way. Sometimes its just indefinably cool. Here then are some of my favorite details from the New York Fashion Week runways.
The Jill Stuart fall/winter ’08 collection marked a venture into darker, sleeker, more sophisticated territories, but still maintained hints of the signature Jill Stuart girliness I adore. Jill was clearly fascinated with exploring richer fabrics and more intricate structuring. We saw a lot of strapless gowns, school-girl blazers, fur boleros, structured coats, Grecian draping, and high volume tops, all of which gave this collection a very old-Hollywood glamor meets Parisian chic vibe, given a modern twist by pairing the ultra sophisticated looks with funky boots and booties. The colors weren’t all somber, with some beautiful gold jacquard pieces, and stunning, red-carpet worthy off-white dresses thrown into the mix.

Ah, the New Year’s Eve party conundrum. Wear a slinky little dress and look great, but don’t eat because every bite will show, or wear a cute yet completely shapeless blob of a dress that allows you to eat, yet makes guests wonder why you’re wearing the potato sack that the host threw away after preparing the side dishes. So we came up with an entire slideshow of ways to hide the results of that last batch of sugar cookies that never quite made it to their intended recipient, or anything else that contributed to the hot off the (cooling) rack gut you’re sporting. The tops and dresses aren’t limited to that awful trapeze shape, so you won’t have to answer awkward questions about buns in the oven that have nothing to do with your kitchen. So eat, drink, and still be hot for the remainder of 2007 with our perfectly pleated, pudge-concealing picks!
