Suede, which was originally used to make ladies’ gloves, is now all over today’s shoe market. From ankle boots to gladiators and pumps it is virtually unavoidable, and I am more than ok with that. Today I’ll highlight the best suede shoes popping up in the Hive. Fall for Chloé’s bootie pump with a collar overlap, strap on a gladiator ballet flat made available by Free People, sidestep the moccasin craze with a woven slouch boot by Joie, throw on a pair of DaniBlack ankle boots for a runway ready look, or go from day to night in a snap with Rachel Comey’s strappy heels. I’m going to be quite honest, I’m years away from having a baby myself- but that doesn’t mean I don’t adore buying shower gifts! From Jessica Alba’s daughter and the birth of Vivienne and Knox Jolie-Pitt it seems that this spring and summer has been baby mania and I’ve noticed the baby bump trend isn’t just for celebs! With baby shower invitations racking up, I’ve started looking for new shower gift options. A huge part of the fun of a baby shower is the opening of all the gifts- everyone loves to ooh and ahh at the cute little outfits and toys. While practical gifts like diapers and formula are always appreciated, now more than ever there are more stylish and interesting gifts for the modern mom. I’m loving the mod circles baby blanket from babystyle.com that’s useful as well as modern and cool. Another great original gift- Little Miss Matched Baby socks- which comes with 9 socks, since you’re bound to lose one in the wash! Many of mommy-to-be’s favorite designers are now making clothes for their mini-mes, from cozy C&C California and Joie dresses and tees to tailored kids clothes from Tocca. And don’t forget something for the mom to be as well- she will absolutely appreciate a spa treatment or an at home kit like Mama Mio’s countdown kit, which comes with Tummy Rub Butter and massage oil. See my SLIDESHOW for the rest of the gifts!
Ashley Thompson opened Owl’s Lab in New York City right after moving from a sunny beach in California. And it shows. “Owl’s Lab is known for playing into the style trends from both coasts,” Ashley explained during my tour of her packed racks and shelves. “I would say that’s one of my distinguishing qualities as a buyer, being from the West Coast, but being influenced by my life on the East Coast. I blend the two into the Owl’s Lab wardrobe.” Stylehive interns Abby and Emily had a great afternoon trying on the latest Owl’s Lab outfits and accessories last week. Forget minis for the moment. To compensate for the return of more body-conscious, form-fitting silhouettes, designers have thrown us all a bone and brought back the maxi dress to give us a chic way to cover it up when we’re facing that inevitable battle of the bloat. The maxi is a rare breed of clothing, one which manages to be sexy despite offering tons of coverage. Choose a style with a plunging neckline, show off the always seductive neckline with a strapless or halter style, hug your curves in a body-skimming style, or hide them behind a more billowy silhouette. There are tons of amazing maxi’s out there, so check out my SLIDESHOW for some of my favorites.
Whip out the tide sticks, seltzer and salt, or whatever else you use to get stains out, because white is giving its counterpart, black, a run for its money and quickly becoming the shade to crave. Although white was once classified as a spring/summer-time only thing while its counterpart, black, took center-stage as every woman’s proverbial go-to shade, ever since the ‘No white after labor day’ law was sent into retirement, white has taken over with all things white - from white shoes, to white bags, to white jeans, and so on - are officially in the year-round staple category. When it comes to style, a little devil-may-care attitude goes a long way, and this season is asking you to throw caution to the wind. Boho-cool is back and it’s brighter than ever in groovy prints and daring ombré.
