I recently purchased a divine navy highwaisted skirt with cascading ruffles from L.A.M.B.. It’s yummy sexuality in a very “I’m hot for a teacher” sort of way! I swooned with this skirt walked down the runway back in September 2007. I plan to pair the skirt with a blush cream cap-sleeve tank and a thick cream belt. Rock and roll and celebrities go together like - well, like rock and roll and celebrities! Celebs just love showing off their wild sides, either by dating a head-to-toe covered in tattoos rocker, or by emulating the iconic (?) styles of such trendsetters (??) as Slash from Guns n’ Roses. This trend is universal and inspires designers from every end of the designing food chain, from ultra sophisticated high-end labels like Chanel to grungy, edgy designers like Alexander Wang. The layered look is a godsend for ladies like myself and Lindsay Lohan with long thin legs and thick, undefined waists. Sure, there are plenty of tips and tricks to create the illusion of a defined waist- some of which we’ve already covered, and more which we will be covering- but sometimes, notably on days when your mid-section is especially pronounced, the best solution for looking and feeling great is to layer it up. Lindsay is the master of the layers and manages to keep the look chic and sexy by not going too layer-happy and carefully selecting items that will complement her figure. Being caged might not sound so bad if your “cage” is a handbag from Creations by Kage, a playful, equestrian-inclined line of handbags that features pleating and a signature horseshoe accent. I had the pleasure of meeting with the designer, Kristin, last week and found her to be quite delightful and as joyful and carefree as her bags. She informed me that her choice of horseshoes – which alternate in metal finish and design from season to season – are a reference to her mother who loves to ride horses. Meanwhile, the names of the bags come from animals she’s owned – though she admits as the line began to expand she has begun to name bags after animals that belonged to friends and family. Maybe I can convince her to do a Simba bag after my adorable blond poodle?
While today’s pumps are significantly higher and shinier than their classic cap-toed Chanel counterparts, they all maintain the demure, polished quality that draws us to them. Case in point: these patent-trim spectators from Giuseppe Zanotti. I love how he’s used non-traditional colors to give them a contemporary edge, but I’m not too crazy about the price! While there are many copycat cap toe pumps out there, only a few can truly be considered worthy substitutes for these Zanotti beauties.
