The stakes were ultra-high on Wednesday night’s episode of Project Runway as the designers were presented with one of the most intimidating challenges to date. At first, it sounded easy enough: design a day-to-night look for a high-powered, glamorous woman, but of course, it got way juicier. In the workroom, the designers are greeted by their client, and guest-judge, for this challenge- the one and only Brooke Shields, who specifies that the look will be for her character Wendy Healy on the hit show Lipstick Jungle and that she will actually wear the winning look in season 2! Talk about every designer’s dream come true! After reviewing all the sketches, Brooke selected six designers to serve as team leaders. The leaders selected partners from the remaining six and then it was off to work! Tensions mounted, visions clashed, and the pressure to make it work was insurmountable. Sadly, someone had to go. Olympic fever is all around and Project Runway was not exempt! On Wednesday’s episode, Tim took the designers on another famous field trip, this time to the Armory Track and Field Training Center- the largest indoor track in the world where Olympians train for track and field events. There, the group met this week’s guest judge- U.S. Olympian Apolo Ohno, who presented their challenge: create a womens-wear look for the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympics. For inspiration, the designers visited the center’s museum which holds countless images from Olympics past. With a half hour to sketch and $150 to spend on fabrics at Mood, the designers were given a day to create a look that was chic, wearable, sporty, and most importantly, one that represented the American spirit. Some designers eagerly embraced this challenge, others completely lost sight of the task at hand. However, someone had to get the boot. I used to tie-dye Hanes t-shirts at camp every summer, trying to create complex designs with multiple colors of dye. Basically, they turned out really horribly unless I stuck to just two colors. Then I forgot about tie-dying, maybe because I didn’t think it would fit into my “adult” life. But after seeing Drew Barrymore wearing a rainbow swirl shirt, I decided to revisit the psychedelic-ness that is tie-dye with some clothes that are tie-dyed, or inspired by it. And if you don’t feel like spending hundreds on a scarf or thousands on a dress go buy a box of Rit and make your own!
Just a few glances at nolitagurl’s Stylediary and you realize that this Japanese fashionista’s unafraid to dabble with extremes. Although her wardrobe appears to be filled with mostly muted colors and classic cuts, she makes her own fashion rules by pairing traditional pieces, like a khaki trench and H&M men’s shirts, with edgier items like micro-length tweed shorts and a particularly bold pair of vintage boots. The result is dramatic, yet subdued. She makes an impressive style statement without resorting to loud prints and bright colors. Even a vintage Karen Zambos floral skirt isn’t safe from nolitagurl’s creative sense of style. She transformed the ultra feminine skirt into a flirty dress and paired it with leggings, a Marni cardigan and mules. Nolitagurl’s Stylediary is packed with hundreds of her individual looks, be sure to check it out! Who knows, her fearless attitude towards fashion may inspire you to look at your wardrobe with renewed creativity!

As expected, the 2008 CFDA Awards (held June 2) were everything that an event attended by fashion royalty should be, but the real winners were the handbags. From Eva Longoria’s chic Stuart Weitzman clutch to Lipstick Jungle actress Kim Raven’s paillette-drenched Marc Jacobs number, this was nothing less than a top dollar affair. Luckily, you don’t have to spend top dollar to get their looks! Click on over to Bagtrends to see the looks now!
Any time is a good time for accessories (just ask my good friend Visa), but we’re designating this week ELLE ACCESSORIES Week in honor of the magazine’s virtual sister elleaccessories.com! Ever since an unknown man boldly sauntered down the streets wearing nothing but a trench-coat and a smile, the look has become synonymous with confidence and raw sex appeal. Okay, I don’t know if this fashion fable ever really happened, but either way, there’s no denying that a classic trench-coat is one of those must-have year-round staples that can always be counted on to up the glam quotient on your look. As winter slowly but surely gives way to spring (I don’t buy this whole March 21st is the first day of Spring nonsense - it still feels like January to me), the trench is more essential than ever - especially when that famous adage April Showers bring May flowers comes to fruition. Making it even more fun to get entrenched in a trench (I think that’s my new favorite saying) is the variety of updated trench styles: organza trenches, sheer trenches, ruffled trenches, bold colored trenches, lightweight trenches, and so much more that will have you wishing for more rainy days. Click SEE SLIDESHOW for some fabulous ways to get trench-ified.
They call me mellow yellow... Ok. Now I don’t know who “they” are, but I do know they’ve got it all wrong, because if you haven’t noticed, yellow is taking spring by storm. The non-rainy kind, of course. It’s not just for clothes either! While yellow is perfect for day dresses, swimsuits, slides, and even eyelids, it’s the burst of sunlight that it adds to home decor that has us reaching for the sun-kissed shade. From creamy pastels to bold goldenrods, the color is much more versatile than it appears at first glance. A yellow pitcher adds unexpected softness to a kitchen, while yellow jewelry gives an otherwise neutral outfit a playful twist. My slideshow is full of ways to incorporate yellow into your kitchen, your closet, and anywhere else that needs a little warmth. Check it out, and tell me your favorite in Comments!
Angeline Jolie is not only one of the most beautiful women on the planet; she’s by far the busiest one! How she juggles motherhood, constant globe trotting, being a goodwill ambassador, making movies, and all the billions of other thing she has on her plate we’ll never know- we can just file that as the 8th wonders of the world. What I do know is a teeny tiny purse would never be able to get Angie through the day which is why she relies on her trusted Anya Hindmarch large shoulder bag. The bag is not only ultra-chic, it’s practical and roomy. Ange can tote around toys for the kids, food for the homeless, her latest movie script, passports for ever member of her family as well as their staff of nannies, a globe to help her decide where to give birth the second time around, and whatever else she needs to get through another day in her fabulous, yet very hectic life.
Come fall 2008, all the Teletubbies are gonna be envying Tinky Winky‘s style. I’m not sure if the credit should go to the Tinks or everyone’s favorite dinosaur Barney, but purple was EVERYWHERE this past New York Fashion Week, and will be the shade to crave when fall hits. From electric purple, to pale purple, to plum, to violet, and every shade in between, this snazzy hue is the one thing preventing us all from classifying the fall ‘08 runway collections and bleak, drab, and dreary.
Right now we’re in that annoying place I like to call fashion limbo. While the weather is still frigid, winter clothing is becoming increasingly scarce as the new spring styles take over the racks. This always poses a dilemma for me: I mean what’s the point of buying the light, airy, spring styles if they’re gonna just hang around in the back of my closet untouched until the weather warms up?
From Pucci and Michael Kors, to Kate Spade, we’re rounding out Tuesday with a whooole lot of designer glam. You’ll find fabulous bags (a wardrobe essential!) and the hottest L.A.M.B pumps (if you can handle the 4.25” stiletto heel that is), along with bright pops of color - which give us much needed relief from winter’s subdued neutrals (hello spring!).
And while you’re at it - tech geeks will love the handy little mouse - complete with numeric keyboard. Accountants, math whizzes, you listening?
So start savin up’ and check out the slideshow, where we’ll tell you how much they all cost and where you can buy them online. Act now! Before they become yesterday’s cool stuff.

Sing with me now: “On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me… one piece of luxe lingerie.” See where I’m heading? While a partridge in a pear tree might be the ultimate gift for someone back in Charles Dickens‘ day, we fashionistas are all about the clothes, shoes and accessories! Warm and wooly knits, cozy casual basics, decadent designer handbags and footwear – sprinkle a few of these items under the tree and it’ll be the bestest Xmas ever. Check out our slideshow, then click over to StyleDiary for more tips on how to pull it all together! Better than a couple of turtle doves and a few French hens, right?
I don’t know about you, but there’s nothing I hate more than being forced by the relentless cold weather to swap my cute winter pea coat for a big, puffy, unflattering winter coat. Every year I go through the same steps of denial in order to justify why my thin fall jackets are still the appropriate choices. Luckily, my stubbornness has subsided thanks to a deliciously fabulous crop of winter coats that have emerged this season that will keep you warm without making you look like a big giant marshmallow.
