Elle's Fall A To Zee Trends: Zippers

Ever been told to "zip it?" Chances are it was in reference to your mouth and not your clothes. Lucky for us, fashions speak louder than words, so the next time you're told to "zip it," why not use the opportunity to try your hand at the zippered trend? Even the simplest basics get a cool dose of downtown edge with the addition of an exposed zipper, like Miss Sixty's long-sleeved tee. For a rugged twist on a classic style, pull on Phillip Lim's trench-style skirt with a silver zip panel. If you think zippers are only for clothes and handbags, think again- jewelry's in on the action too. Just look at Khoon Hooi's metallic masterpiece- the light fabric is perfectly juxtaposed with swirling, undone zippers for a raw and yet still refined result. A pair of delicately zippered gloves serves as a more subtle nod to this trend, while a zip-front dress in purple is equal parts sexy and playful. Go Boho This Fall With Crochet!

Rich bohemian styles ruled the fall runways and they're back in a big way. They re-emerged this season with earthy printed skirts, floral blouses, layered sweaters and even crochet. Yes, you heard that right- crochet is back! From artsy-crafty meets rocker cool at Anna Sui and Miss Sixty to sexy seventies at Missoni and Gucci, these knits are anything but grannyish! Crochet bags, vest, and scarves are a perfect addition to your boho wardrobe this winter. Go all they way with a purple crochet dress with fringe by Anna Sui. Not ready to commit 100% to the boho style? Crochet accessories are for you. Just a hint of knit on necklace or hat, like the floppy felt hat with a crochet trimmed hat from Hat Attack will do that trick. Go with a little or a lot- either way you'll be feeling free as a bird in these haute-hippie looks. See the slideshow for some more crochet-eriffic styles!

Booties, Shooties, and Ankle Boots Galore!

As much as I hate to subscribe to huge trends, I've succumbed to this one...my booty wants a pair of booties! You wouldn't think they'd be universally flattering, but now there's such a variety of styles out there that you're bound to find a pair out there that make your gams look good. They're just too irresistibly cute when paired opaque tights or skinny jeans. Whatever you may call them - booties, ankle boots, shooties (shoes x booties), there's so many out there to pick from - from suede to belted, cut out to peep toe, studded to ruched. That's why I need your help to pick a pair out, or, you can just take a look at my slideshow for your own shopping entertainment. Since I'm a shorty, of course they all have heels, that's just the way I roll.

NYFW Trend Alert: Coat Your Legs With Candy Colors

To combat the overwhelmingly dark and somber tone that marked the fall/winter '08 collections, a lot of our favorite designers added unexpected, playful elements to spruce up their collections. I mean, where's the fun in fashion without a few risks and surprises? Some designers threw shades of shimmery gold into the mix for added glitz and glamor, others played with plush purples and other rich jewel tones, most went wild with accessories, and a few took risks by playing with pops of brightly colored legs, by far the most fun and funky way to add a much needed spark.

NYFW Runway Report: Miss Sixty Hearts Haute Hippie

Psychedelic. That's all there is to say about the Miss Sixty fall/winter '08 collection. But I'll go on anyway. Because the theme went beyond the clothes and onto the décor, with the runway splattered in DayGlo colors and peace signs, and several huge, dizzyingly colorful buses as the backdrop. The collection was strongly influenced by the swingin' sixties, but still stayed true to the signature Miss Sixty vibe by keeping the looks sexy, fun, and funky. Haute hippie and the classic bohemian aesthetic were strong inspirations in this collection (bucking the fall shows' general trend toward cool refinement) which reflected the passionate, free-thinking, rock "n' roll mindset that dominated the 60's and 70's (so I've heard).
