Hive Q&A: Latest Project Runway Bootee Sees Bigger Picture, Applauds Fellow Designers

Well, no shortage of surprises here- after last week's Project Runway episode which left all of the designers going home to design collections in spite of Jerell's win, the remaining four set to work on their 10 piece collections- which needed to include a coordinating wedding dress- though only three designers would actually compete at Bryant Park. With two months and $8,000 to spend, it was clear they'd have to really go the distance, and go they did- Korto headed home to Little Rock, Leanne set up her workspace back in Portland, Jerell found himself back in LA, and Kenley got to work back in Brooklyn. Tim visited each of the designers, lending advice while gaining insight into their lives off the show, but the relative calm was nowhere to be found as the designers returned to New York and yet another addition to the challenge was revealed merely six days before their collections were to be finished- they'd each have to design an accompanying bridesmaid's dress. Exhaustion and emotions took hold as the final four put the finishing touches on their work, and soon it was all in the judges' hands. Two designers were told right off the bat that were still in, in spite of one particular dress that deemed a bit too reminiscent of an Alexander McQueen gown, and as for the other two, it just wasn't as clear who would stay and who would go. Read on for my exclusive interview and find out who ended up going home.

Hive Q&A: Latest Project Runway Bootee Says He Owned The Runway, But Not The Outfit

As if being one of the five remaining designers wasn't enough pressure in itself, this week's Project Runway challenge had the final contenders stepping into a dual role- they would each be designing a look inspired by a musical genre. Their client? A fellow contestant. Time flew by as they struggled to play designer and model all at once, and the pressure manifested itself in all sorts of ways- Leanne embraced her hip-hop persona with a hilarious rap, Korto started feeling the country twang, and Kenley, despite being outfitted in a getup that was purely pop, had an attitude that was quite the opposite. When it was time for Heidi, Michael, Nina, and guest judge LL Cool J to weigh in, it seemed as if many missed the mark- some held back in their designs for fear of going over the top, while others decided going all out was what it would take to win. Kenley's frustrations flared, and Kors' comments were some for the record books- specifically towards Leanne's design for Korto's country persona ("It looks too much like a woman going out for ribs") and towards Suede's look for Jerell ("It looks like rock n' roll going to the grocery store"). In the end, the win went to Korto, whose punk look for Suede was the perfect balance of over the top and believable, and one unlucky designer saw that the outfit he created, while well put together, just wasn't enough. Read on for my exclusive interview to find out who it was.

Tobi.com Celebrates 2nd Anniversary with Exclusive Fall Fashion Show

San Francisco fashionistas dressed to the nines to see and be seen at the Tobi.com Fall Fashion Show and 2-Year Anniversary Party last Friday. Seen were: lots of black with bold punches of colors, sky-high heels, the ever classic bomber jackets, and lots of preppy layered looks. French DJs Danger and Spitzer spun tunes while Tobi sent models down the runway showcasing fall looks from their online store such as Elizabeth and James' decadent feathered top and Sonia Rykiel's perfect cherry red wool coat. The fashion show also served as a contest for Tobi's next model, who will appear in their lookbook at the end of October. Five finalists strutted down the runway but 4 were outcheered by the crowd's overwhelming response to silver-haired Kamal, who took the winning prize. Check out my SLIDESHOW for a peek at the runway show!

New York Fashion Week Notes: Trust Me, Your Morning Was Not as Bad as Theirs

Whenever you find yourself falling for the old trope that modeling is all glamor and glitz, think of the Ahava Mud models. This morning these three troopers took off their clothes to reveal gorgeous bods covered in mud. Sure, admittedly its good mud, full of "minerals, salts, and botanicals from the world's most natural beauty source; the Dead Sea," and a signature product in the AHAVA Dead Sea Laboratories line. But still, come on - walking around looking like you just got out of a mud-wrestling match is a tough gig! Especially with New York's fashion elite gawking at you. Poor mud models!

New York Fashion Week Studio: Hanii Y's Vintage Meets Modern Amusement Park

I arrived at the Met Promenade a bit early for Hanii Y's Spring/Summer 2009 showcase, and was immediately struck by its bright white walls, digital art, and dreamy music. Once I entered and took in the production of the ever so fittingly titled "Sleepwalking Park," the aura in the room shifted, the crowd settled, and everything seemed to move in slow motion. Models stood amidst the sculptural pillars, draped in Hanii Y's signature vintage-meets modern styles. Structured skirts paired with draped tees, sheer summerweight sweaters in vibrant greens and yellows, and carefully draped toppers were met with patent belts, white oxfords, and chunky patent platform heels. Classic khaki trenches framed hot pink and orange chiffon dresses, proof that the neon-neutral trend will be sticking around for awhile. The occasional leather jacket and exposed zipper stood out as well, adding some of-the-moment edge to the characteristically feminine line. Click on the slideshow to see my snapshots from the presentation, and check out Stylehive members' favorite Hanii Y looks!

StyleNews: People StyleWatch Reports On Naomi Campbell's "Model" Behavior

Models, especially supermodels, each have their own signature style both on and off the runways. Whether it's a facial expression, a particular walk, a string of greasy boyfriends, or a reality tv show or five, it definitely serves as a way to keep them in the headlines. Naomi Campbell is no stranger to this phenomenon, having made the transition from supermodel to holier-than-thou individual with grace, poise, and the occasional spat with cops. Literally-- after refusing to comply with Heathrow Airport personnel on Thursday Campbell actually spat at police, and was then arrested. From runways to run-ins with the law, it's safe to say she gives new meaning to the term "model" behavior. See all of the juicy details here on People StyleWatch!
