Move Over Ikea! H&M Debuts Their Own Home Collection

The Scandinavians are at it again! While those of us in America were in a tizzy over Black Friday sales and holiday gift shopping, H&M released their new home collection in Berlin, Germany. If you haven't had enough of the modern home styles of Ikea or CB2, take a look at H&M's bold bedding, towels, and pillow covers. Based around four sub collections- design, nature, classic and youth- the entire collection will launch online in February 2009 and will be available for sale in Scandinavia, the Netherlands, Germany and Austria. No word yet on if and when they'll be available in the U.S., but stay tuned to the Hive for updates, and in the meantime, click over to racked.com to see more pictures and details about the collection.

Mexico's La Purificadora Hotel Serves Up A Refreshing Place to Unwind

Who would have ever envisioned that a colonial-era water purification plant in Pueblo, Mexico, could one day be transformed into a modern sanctuary? Mexican architect Ricardo Legorreta had both the vision and the talent to transform the original 1884 structure into its current state, La Purificadora, a stylish 26-guest room architectural masterpiece and colonial oasis. When designing the hotel, Legorreta drew inspiration from the original structure's purpose by using "purity" as the guiding theme in his design. The 3-story open-air lobby of La Purificadora may be minimalistic in color (only black, white, and purple are used), but it's not without industrial-sized drama by means of a stone staircase that floats majestically down to the main entry below. All 26 of the guest rooms are filled with colonial influence, contemporary flavor, and spectacular views of the city. Tranquil water served as the inspiration for the rooftop terrace's 30-meter glass-sided lap pool, as well as the glass closets in guest rooms, and the glass balconies that can be found throughout the hotel. And what stylish new hotel can be complete without a trendy on-site restaurant? Well, La Purificadora's no exception. The hotel's ground floor restaurant serves up gourmet versions up regional Mexican specialties like mole-rubbed beef and conchinita pibil. So the next time that you're craving a getaway like you crave a tall and refreshing glass of water, consider paying a visit to La Purificadora. Get The Scoop On Comme Des Garcons For H&M!

By now you've probably heard about the Comme Des Garcons for H&M collection that's slated to hit stores mid-November. You may have even heard about the $350 dress- a bargain if you realize that amount might get you the right sleeve of an actual CdG dress. In any event, we're excited to see how Rei Kawakubo's playful but high fashion design philosophy translates into the H&M mass market. Seasoned shoppers will recall the frenzy caused by previous designer capsule collections- Karl Lagerfeld, Viktor & Rolf, and Roberto Cavalli, to name a few- but questionable pricing aside, a quick glimpse at the lookbook has me convinced this line will top them all. Check out my slideshow for the looks that are worth braving the hoards of shoppers who will fight tooth and manicured nail for a piece of the collection, along with the four hour drive you might endure just to get there in the first place. Lines not your thing? Don't worry, I'm sure there will be plenty of polka dot wristlets left over..

New York Fashion Week Studio: Hanii Y's Vintage Meets Modern Amusement Park

I arrived at the Met Promenade a bit early for Hanii Y's Spring/Summer 2009 showcase, and was immediately struck by its bright white walls, digital art, and dreamy music. Once I entered and took in the production of the ever so fittingly titled "Sleepwalking Park," the aura in the room shifted, the crowd settled, and everything seemed to move in slow motion. Models stood amidst the sculptural pillars, draped in Hanii Y's signature vintage-meets modern styles. Structured skirts paired with draped tees, sheer summerweight sweaters in vibrant greens and yellows, and carefully draped toppers were met with patent belts, white oxfords, and chunky patent platform heels. Classic khaki trenches framed hot pink and orange chiffon dresses, proof that the neon-neutral trend will be sticking around for awhile. The occasional leather jacket and exposed zipper stood out as well, adding some of-the-moment edge to the characteristically feminine line. Click on the slideshow to see my snapshots from the presentation, and check out Stylehive members' favorite Hanii Y looks!
