NYFW Backstage Beauty: Get the Smolderingly Sexy Carmen Marc Valvo Makeup Look!

Fashion Week is always a double-edged sword- on one hand, we get introduced to all these fabulous new styles and trends. On the other, we have to put our patience to the test during the months it takes for these new collections to make their way onto the racks. Fortunately the same standards don't apply to the makeup looks, which we can replicate right now! The Carmen Marc Valvo Spring 2009 collection merged soft femininity with edgy sex appeal, a consistent trend on the runways that is best described as fiercely fabulous. Lead makeup artist Tom Pecheux for MAC played with the idea of fusing disparate elements when creating the makeup concept, keeping the face natural and matte and creating a shimmery, wet smoky eye. The result was a smolderingly sexy look that every girl simply must master. Read on for a step-by-step guide to recreating this killer look.

Get 'It Girl' Status With Agyness' Glam-Grunge Look

I hate using the term "It Girl". It just seems to be so overused nowadays, yet it really hits the nail on the head when describing Agyness Deyn. She's always doing her own thing - which, in my eyes may, be the very essence of an "it" girl--that and having kick-butt trend-setting style. It also helps that's she an international supermodel, muse, on the top of countless best-dressed lists as well as the ambassador of youth culture. Love it or hate it--this girl has a definitive style. Steal the glam-grunge look she was sporting around the tents at New York Fashion Week- an off-the-shoulder top paired with an oversize Chanel bag is given a grunge 80's look when paired with cut offs and bike shorts. This look isn't for the faint of heart, or the fashion-shy- so proceed with caution and check out my slideshow!

NYFW Backstage Beauty: Get the Vena Cava Egyptian-Goth Look

For the Vena Cava Spring 2009 collection, designers Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai went for an "Egyptomania" theme with a gothic, mid-seventies twist inspired by movies like Lucifer Rising. From the clothes that had the phrase "I want this RIGHT NOW' playing over and over in my head to the smoldering makeup to the sleek and slightly undone hair styles, I absolutely loved every single aspect of this killer presentation. While we're gonna have to test our patience and wait a few months before we can snag the clothes, we CAN replicate the hair and makeup looks right now! New York Fashion Week Trend Report: Not So Lovely Leather

Remember that brief moment where leather got to ditch its rough-and-tumble persona because it played so nicely with spring's pretty dresses? Well, it's back to its bad self again, and to be honest we're a bit relieved. You didn't think it could pretend forever, did you? Matthew Williamson and Rock & Republic topped the long list of designers who made the runways more rugged this season with leather corsets, skirts, and pants that didn't spare as much as one curve, while Diesel Black Gold threw a shredded leather jacket over boyfriend jeans for a surprisingly put-together look- I'm hoping those two don't break up anytime soon. Alexander Wang's collection was low on leather as is typical for spring, yet a pair of leather pants with an exposed zip fly generated enough grungy sex appeal for the entire collection. Other notable leather moments: Yigal Azrouel's structural washed leather outerwear, and Ralph Lauren's tan leather and silk safari jackets. Expect to still see the leather jacket and dress combination come spring 2009, but don't be surprised when the dresses are a little less dainty, and the jackets a bit more dangerous. New York Fashion Week Trend Report: Asymmetry On The Runways

You don't have to be in the front rows to tilt your head at one of Spring 2009's most notable trends. Designers have been dabbling in asymmetry for some time now but this time around, one-shouldered dresses were put front and center, a significant departure from previous seasons where the daring look seemed to be pushed to the sidelines. Max Azria looked at asymmetry from a different angle with a one-shouldered, bias-cut gown with a front halter strap, while Marc Jacobs indulged in his signature offbeat style by sending a model down the catwalk in a quirky, single shoulder-baring top. Nicole Miller layered a structured asymmetrical shift over a crisp shirt dress making the look oddly workplace appropriate, and BCBGMAXAZRIA's coral-pink asymmetrical dress was draped so beautifully, giving the illusion that it was falling off the model- intentionally, I'm certain. Click the SLIDESHOW to see who else picked up on the trend.

New York Fashion Week Trend Report: Acid Brights

Flashing lights aren't just for the cameras, and this season was all about the candid look of acid brights- those neon tones that, when done right, transcend the dreaded day-glo look and become patches of pure spontaneity. Alexander Wang, taking a break from the blacks and greys that defined his Fall 2008 collection, opted for punchy pinks and oranges for Spring 2009, sometimes in the same outfit. Matthew Williamson paired bright jackets and pants with even brighter heels, Tadashi Shoji squeezed lime green over skirts and anoraks, and Chris Benz played up sheer neutrals with shades of yellow ranging from canary to fluorescent. If you're still not seeing neon, opt for a more subtle splash- a neon bandeau peeking out from a black or tan tank, a brighter-than-usual sandal, or for the truly faint of heart- neon nail polish. As for stares you'll get-- we're pretty sure they're looks of envy. Check out the slideshow for some of the brightest looks from New York Fashion Week.

New York Fashion Week Runway: Carmen Marc Valvo Has Eveningwear Squared Away

Renowned for the unique details he incorporates into eveningwear, Carmen Marc Valvo built upon this trademark for his Spring 2009 collection, choosing to focus on one detail in particular- the square. Body-con woven ribbon dresses, gorgeous metallic leather square skirts, eye-catching patent square sequin appliques, and geometric basket woven details transformed pretty dresses into show-stopping numbers, and swimsuits were given the square treatment as well. Taking a break from the rigidity of the square shape, black microfiber twisted jersey dresses added fluidity to the collection with the perfect balance of draping and tailoring, and a pair of pleated trousers ensured that Valvo's signature elegance will travel from ballroom to boardroom in style.
Colors: black, ivory, canary yellow, grass green
Celeb Sightings: Emmy Rossum, Tamara Tunie, Ingrid Seynhaeve
