Join the Harem With These Trendy Trousers!

Of all the new trends introduced by designers at last month's New York Fashion Week, the Aladdin-style harem pants are definitely getting the most fashion buzz. Although critics appear to either embrace or totally hate this trend, there's no denying that the harem pant fits in perfectly with the exotic luxury feel of many of the Spring and Resort 2009 collections. I loved the unique ways designers styled these unusual trousers. Like Elie Tahari's short and flirty style harem pant complete with ankle-ties, Proenza Schouler's stunning high-waisted and all-black take on the trend, and Phi's tie-waist jodhpur-style harem pants. And for daring fashionistas already eager to get into a pair of these trendy pants, you're in luck! There are a growing number of harem-style pants available in the Hive right now. Don't believe me? Well then check out my SLIDESHOW to see five of my favorite harem pants straight from the Hive.

New York Fashion Week Runway: Sabyasachi's Down To Earth, Up-To-The-Minute Designs

Sabyasachi Mukherjee's Spring 2009 collection for his eponymous label was an playful experiment with earthy, vibrant color, rich texture, and intricate patterns, all of which combined for an unquestionably international vibe. Scalloped minidresses, printed silk skirts, and various button-adorned separates were testament to Sabyasachi's handiwork, and breezy chiffon tops added sophistication to super-short skirt hems. An exposed zipper here and a colorblock pattern there added a contemporary edge to the traditionally-influenced collection, giving it that one-of-a-kind feel that I'm sure is as fun to wear as it was to watch!
Colors/Prints: multi, rich earth tones, geometric florals, embroidered panels
Silhouettes: dirndl skirts, tulip skirts, peasant tops, mini skirts, bomber shirts

New York Fashion Week Style Steal: Little Black Dress, Big Style Statement

Gone are the days of the little black dress being a foolproof outfit and nothing more-- these days it's all about reinventing the classic with edgy accessories and using it as a canvas to create look after stunning look. This impeccably stylish Peter Som show-goer hit all the right notes: tousled hair, layered necklaces, a bold cuff, open toe shoe boots, and of course, a black dress with equal parts structure and softness. You'd be hard-pressed to find anything wrong with this outfit, and I'm pretty that if there was a best-dressed list for non-celebrity fashion week folk, she'd surely come out on top. New York Fashion Week Style Steal: I'll Wear What He's Wearing

Boys, take note: the graphic tee, blazer, and jeans combo never, and I mean never, fails. Change up the color scheme and throw on some quirky accessories (mint wayfarers, tennis shoes) and you'll be set for anything- and anyone- who comes your way. The colorful jacket is a bit daring, but he wears it so well, and as for the casually half-buttoned, sleeves rolled up style, well, it's just so effortless. I can show you where to find pretty much everything he's wearing, but style like his just can't be bought. Click the slideshow to try and get the look!

New York Fashion Week Studio: Hanii Y's Vintage Meets Modern Amusement Park

I arrived at the Met Promenade a bit early for Hanii Y's Spring/Summer 2009 showcase, and was immediately struck by its bright white walls, digital art, and dreamy music. Once I entered and took in the production of the ever so fittingly titled "Sleepwalking Park," the aura in the room shifted, the crowd settled, and everything seemed to move in slow motion. Models stood amidst the sculptural pillars, draped in Hanii Y's signature vintage-meets modern styles. Structured skirts paired with draped tees, sheer summerweight sweaters in vibrant greens and yellows, and carefully draped toppers were met with patent belts, white oxfords, and chunky patent platform heels. Classic khaki trenches framed hot pink and orange chiffon dresses, proof that the neon-neutral trend will be sticking around for awhile. The occasional leather jacket and exposed zipper stood out as well, adding some of-the-moment edge to the characteristically feminine line. New York Fashion Week Runway: Rosa Cha Brings Sao Paulo To Bryant Park

One thing I always love about swimwear shows is the relaxed vibe - ignore the flashing lights and tons of crowds and you may as well be laying out on the beach. As for the looks that defined Rosa Cha Spring 2009, it was impossible not to take note of their structured nature, which is so unexpected for the swimwear category. Subtle pleats and folds added an air of elegance as designer Amir Slama's Brazilian roots took hold, resulting in the kind of devastatingly sexy pieces that ensure all eyes will be- and stay- on the wearer. The color palette was minimal, but just enough not to overwhelm Slama's true prowess-- details in design. Leather belts, metal rings, and a generous smattering of Swarovski crystal and mesh stripes were the icing on the optical white and vibrant green pieces, and deep v-necks and structured bandeaus ensured the looks were equally functional and flattering on or off the runways. Model Chanel Iman's wispy, floor-length overalls had an ethereal feel, another unexpected notion when it comes to swimwear, and for a brief moment the sound of the rain pounding on the tents outside became that of waves crashing on the shores of Sao Paulo. Oh, and on another note, if you're still looking for a pair of YSL 'Tribute' heels, you'll find about 5,000 in Bryant Park alone. You heard it from me.
