This Stylediarist lives by the mantra anything goes. When Susie Bubble dresses it’s all about personal style. Forget the basic rule of concealing your delicates-- bras are worn over clothing, a skirt floats over a dainty slip- sans blouse. This Londoner is one gutsy dresser, and I am fully inspired. She admits on her profile that when it comes to fashion there is nothing worse than the clothing wearing the person, and in full agreement I assure you she does not have this problem. While I would deem her style experimental eclecticism, she’s right in stating that she doesn’t really fit in to any style category, and really why fit in when you can play and experiment? Boyfriend jeans, latex leggings, clashing prints...good thing we get to see the stars sport them before we do. If there’s a wacky trend out there, you can bet someone’s willing to try it! In fact, a certain StyleWatch slideshow is full of questionable celebrity fashions, including Katie Holmes in an unfortunate pair of boyfriend jeans. However, there are some shining moments for style-savvy celebs like Kristen Bell in a cute, candy-hued ensemble. Those of us with highly conservative friends know that we often have to espouse the functional benefits of thongs. For instance, a good laser cut seamless nude thong completely eliminates the appearance of panty lines under even the thinnest of white pants. That has obvious benefits for the summer wardrobe. I spend most of my days helping women find the right underwear for their outfits. So, the function of their underwear often takes precedence over the fashion. Still, there is something about the thong that is just plain hot, and I know that my friends here in the Hive are happy to celebrate fashion over function. I’m going to be quite honest, I’m years away from having a baby myself- but that doesn’t mean I don’t adore buying shower gifts! From Jessica Alba’s daughter and the birth of Vivienne and Knox Jolie-Pitt it seems that this spring and summer has been baby mania and I’ve noticed the baby bump trend isn’t just for celebs! With baby shower invitations racking up, I’ve started looking for new shower gift options. Stylediarist Jewels knows that basics don’t look so dull when they’re paired correctly. Dressing almost solely in subdued solids, she creates interest by layering and mixing fabric weights and textures. With this knowledge, all of her looks appear styled, effortless and chic. This New Yorker’s subtlety allows her to incorporate trends without having her outfits scream to every passerby, “Look at me I’m fashionable!” No two outfits look identical, but this girl certainly has a cemented style; one that if it works for you, could be easy to achieve with a lot of what’s already in your closet. Stylediarist Renee-Zoe maintains her style in any climate, and for any occasion. A resident of Melbourne, Australia, this 18 year old claims she doesn’t really have a definitive look, but tries to make her outfits pulled-together and simple. Utilizing lots of black basics and earthy accent tones, each and every one of her outfits is perfectly urban-chic. Her Stylediary boasts intriguing vintage accessories and a truly innovative use of tights. This girl’s wardrobe seems to be ready for everything from a cocktail party to a rock concert. Fashion would be nothing like the cultural mega-force it is today without international influence, and believe me, it goes much farther than the fact that another H&M store pops up every time we blink. That’s why I’m so inspired by StyleDiary, where real people from all over the world are posting pictures of their outfits, with everything from the everyday to the experimental. Recently I’ve taken notice of quite a few Swedish Stylediarists whose outfits quickly caught my attention. Baby, baby- little ones today are becoming so stylish. Or perhaps parents are the ones showing their style. In any case, today’s little ones are surely wearing some fashionable pieces. We thought it was time to look at what some independent designers were up to in regards to little girls’ outfits. Small Magazine is the first place to start if you want to find the latest looks from independents. While browsing their beautiful online mag, we fell in love with House of Flux’s retro flapper-era velvet burnout coat. The orange and white polka-dot tulle dress by Belgium designer Kaatje Sandra, Max & Lola, is super cute for those lingering summer days. And of course we love vintage - for the very best - check out Baby Bean Vintage Daywear. Coral Camellia brings you handmade dresses that are just right for the hot summer days. I’m fiercely on the hunt for summer wardrobe items and trust me when I say, it has been ridiculously hard to find the perfect colorful low heel. I’ve scoured high and low, everywhere offline and online in pursuit but to no true avail. The gorgeous teal Miu Miu strappy flat wedges on way sale at Barneys this past weekend couldn’t be had and now the fervor is only worse. Shopping for jeans is not easy. Go beyond the big retail brands and you’ve got more than three dozen smaller names to test out and try to size, so much that buying a single pair of jeans can take hours. If you’ve managed to endure the past few months without catching every bit of news about Sex And The City: The Movie, and dodged every spoiler that came along with it, I’m not sure whether to commend you for your self control or wonder if you’ve been living under a rock. That said, for those of us who are completely aware of every plot point in the film, the major surprises are going to be in the stars’ outfits. Carrie, Charlotte, Samantha, and Miranda are all a bit older, and while I’m sure they can still run after cabs in sky-high heels like no one else can, it’ll be interesting to see if their outfits grew up too. Which then begs the question:
After what appeared to be eons of lounge pants and jeans, fashion has finally thrown us a stylish bone with by bringing hipster back to trouser pants, and like the super chic, super cool cats they are, Stylediarists are all over it. Please accept my apologies. I have been going on and on with test driving dresses for weeks on end and almost forgot that that tops are also red hot this season. So yesterday at Bloomingdales I focused. I stayed strong and forced myself to only audition tops, five of them, in spring’s hottest styles. Los Angelinos may slack off during the day, sticking to easy lounge pants and hoodies, but come evening time, things kick up a notch and there’s style everywhere. The current look du jour is a pair of cool pants worn with a floaty, sexy silk top and 70s jewelry, heels hidden under floor-grazing hems. Pretty dresses with flat gladiator sandals and easy trouser denim looks are close behind, while style setters are all about pant-length silk jumpsuits with halter necklines and voluminous legs. This was the scene at the Tres Glam trunk show last night, hosted at Petro Zillia. Guests noshed on HER energy drinks, munchies from Ashton Kutcher’s restaurant Dolce, and Roberto Cavalli vodka with designers Britney and Lisa Gastinau (of Gastinau Girls). I recently purchased a divine navy highwaisted skirt with cascading ruffles from L.A.M.B.. It’s yummy sexuality in a very “I’m hot for a teacher” sort of way! I swooned with this skirt walked down the runway back in September 2007. I plan to pair the skirt with a blush cream cap-sleeve tank and a thick cream belt.
