Stylediary Spotlight: Susie Bubble Is One Gutsy Fashionista!

This Stylediarist lives by the mantra anything goes.  When Susie Bubble dresses it’s all about personal style. Forget the basic rule of concealing your delicates-- bras are worn over clothing, a skirt floats over a dainty slip- sans blouse. This Londoner is one gutsy dresser, and I am fully inspired. She admits on her profile that when it comes to fashion there is nothing worse than the clothing wearing the person, and in full agreement I assure you she does not have this problem. While I would deem her style experimental eclecticism, she’s right in stating that she doesn’t really fit in to any style category, and really why fit in when you can play and experiment? Check out Susie Bubble’s Stylediary but first check out some of my picks of her outfits in the slideshow.

Web Gem: Pastels, Prints, And Ponies? Oh My.

Boyfriend jeans, latex leggings, clashing prints...good thing we get to see the stars sport them before we do. If there’s a wacky trend out there, you can bet someone’s willing to try it! In fact, a certain StyleWatch slideshow is full of questionable celebrity fashions, including Katie Holmes in an unfortunate pair of boyfriend jeans. However, there are some shining moments for style-savvy celebs like Kristen Bell in a cute, candy-hued ensemble. They’re leaving the verdict up to you though, so click on over to People StyleWatch to vote on all the looks, including Leona Lewis in a pony-printed dress.

Sexy Style: 5 Hot Thongs That Put Fashion First

Those of us with highly conservative friends know that we often have to espouse the functional benefits of thongs.  For instance, a good laser cut seamless nude thong completely eliminates the appearance of panty lines under even the thinnest of white pants. That has obvious benefits for the summer wardrobe. I spend most of my days helping women find the right underwear for their outfits. So, the function of their underwear often takes precedence over the fashion. Still, there is something about the thong that is just plain hot, and I know that my friends here in the Hive are happy to celebrate fashion over function. With that in mind, check out the SLIDESHOW presenting 5 hot thongs!

Baby Style: 10 Stylish Gifts For The Modern Mom (And Baby Too)

I’m going to be quite honest, I’m years away from having a baby myself- but that doesn’t mean I don’t adore buying shower gifts! From Jessica Alba’s daughter and the birth of Vivienne and Knox Jolie-Pitt it seems that this spring and summer has been baby mania and I’ve noticed the baby bump trend isn’t just for celebs! With baby shower invitations racking up, I’ve started looking for new shower gift options. A huge part of the fun of a baby shower is the opening of all the gifts- everyone loves to ooh and ahh at the cute little outfits and toys. While practical gifts like diapers and formula are always appreciated, now more than ever there are more stylish and interesting gifts for the modern mom. I’m loving the mod circles baby blanket from babystyle.com that’s useful as well as modern and cool. Another great original gift- Little Miss Matched Baby socks- which comes with 9 socks, since you’re bound to lose one in the wash! Many of mommy-to-be’s favorite designers are now making clothes for their mini-mes, from cozy C&C California and Joie dresses and tees to tailored kids clothes from Tocca. And don’t forget something for the mom to be as well- she will absolutely appreciate a spa treatment or an at home kit like Mama Mio’s countdown kit, which comes with Tummy Rub Butter and massage oil. See my SLIDESHOW for the rest of the gifts!

Stylediary Spotlight: Jewels Makes Her Basics Shine

Stylediarist Jewels knows that basics don’t look so dull when they’re paired correctly. Dressing almost solely in subdued solids, she creates interest by layering and mixing fabric weights and textures. With this knowledge, all of her looks appear styled, effortless and chic. This New Yorker’s subtlety allows her to incorporate trends without having her outfits scream to every passerby, “Look at me I’m fashionable!” No two outfits look identical, but this girl certainly has a cemented style; one that if it works for you, could be easy to achieve with a lot of what’s already in your closet. To see my favorite looks and gain inspiration check out the SLIDESHOW, and click here to check out Jewels’ StyleDiary.

Stylediary Spotlight: Urban Chic That Transcends Seasons

Stylediarist Renee-Zoe maintains her style in any climate, and for any occasion. A resident of Melbourne, Australia, this 18 year old claims she doesn’t really have a definitive look, but tries to make her outfits pulled-together and simple. Utilizing lots of black basics and earthy accent tones, each and every one of her outfits is perfectly urban-chic. Her Stylediary boasts intriguing vintage accessories and a truly innovative use of tights. This girl’s wardrobe seems to be ready for everything from a cocktail party to a rock concert. I do have to disagree with her though, She does have a “look” and she wears it well. Check out my SLIDESHOW to view my favorite pics from Renee-Zoe’s Stylediary.

Hive 5: Tuxedo Jackets Take Over Women’s Formal Wear

Look at any red carpet event these days, and you’ll be seeing more tuxedo jackets than ever before - and not just on the boys. Gone are the days when the structured tuxedo jacket was only to be seen on the date of the starlet attending award shows and premieres! Today the ladies are taking this suit component into their own hands.  Seen on the likes of Ashley Olsen, Kate Moss, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Natalie Portman, this style is sure to stick around. Over a formal gown, with tailored tuxedo shorts, or paired with jeans, this style seems to have infinite possibilities. For the classic style suit up with Paul and Joe’s “Edgarpoe” jacket. On the other end of the spectrum mix up the style with Cosa Nostra’s innovation (Project Runway winner Jeffrey Sebelia’s line). Make sure to check out the SLIDESHOW to discover where to buy these extremes and and everything in between! To see the style in action click over to Brittany Snow’s Celeb Style Swipe

Style World: How To Rock Layers Like the Swedes!

Fashion would be nothing like the cultural mega-force it is today without international influence, and believe me, it goes much farther than the fact that another H&M store pops up every time we blink. That’s why I’m so inspired by StyleDiary, where real people from all over the world are posting pictures of their outfits, with everything from the everyday to the experimental. Recently I’ve taken notice of quite a few Swedish Stylediarists whose outfits quickly caught my attention. Something about their layered looks was so effortless, as if anyone could create them just by using closet staples, yet these fashionistas threw on a unique touch making them truly stand out - a quirky hat, a belt layered over a sweater, or an unexpected pop of color. Click on my SLIDESHOW for seven Stylediarists from Sweden!

Featured Member: “LoveHandles” Is Our Master of the Miniskirt!

Love the baby doll and miniskirt look but don’t want to look like Courtney Love circa the 90s? For a cute, pulled together look, follow the lead of Stylediarist LoveHandles. This lady knows how to work the leg without revealing too much, and without looking too childish. She pairs fun colored tights or leggings with a short skirt or dress, makes sure that if they are super short, they are super poofy, and throws on some extra chunky heels or wedges to balance it all out. This well-rounded schoolgirl look works for day, night, casual, or out-and-about. Adding a cardigan, cropped jacket, collared shirt, or vest will give it all completely different looks, so try it out for yourself and stop by the SLIDESHOW to grab some tips from the The Master of the Mini herself.

Baby Style: Handmade Looks For The Littlest Fashionistas

Baby, baby- little ones today are becoming so stylish. Or perhaps parents are the ones showing their style. In any case, today’s little ones are surely wearing some fashionable pieces. We thought it was time to look at what some independent designers were up to in regards to little girls’ outfits. Small Magazine is the first place to start if you want to find the latest looks from independents. While browsing their beautiful online mag, we fell in love with House of Flux’s retro flapper-era velvet burnout coat. The orange and white polka-dot tulle dress by Belgium designer Kaatje Sandra, Max & Lola, is super cute for those lingering summer days. And of course we love vintage - for the very best - check out Baby Bean Vintage Daywear. Coral Camellia brings you handmade dresses that are just right for the hot summer days. And Dominique Rouzier’s limited edition frocks are made in New York. And if you are really into seeing the the very latest kids’ fashion, check out Kids Rock - a fashion show just for the little ones - July 19th at Ritual in Hollywood - where else? Check out the SLIDESHOW to view all of these great fashions.

Editor’s Pick: I Found My Colorful Low Heel Sandals At Last!

I’m fiercely on the hunt for summer wardrobe items and trust me when I say, it has been ridiculously hard to find the perfect colorful low heel. I’ve scoured high and low, everywhere offline and online in pursuit but to no true avail. The gorgeous teal Miu Miu strappy flat wedges on way sale at Barneys this past weekend couldn’t be had and now the fervor is only worse. It had me going on full blast this morning hitting every possible shoe-carrying website and alas, found a pair to love, plus four other that are totally divine. Here’s a SLIDESHOW of the goodies.

If you can reinvent something in your closet, you’re a star. That’s what made me take a double take on this New York fashionista’s chic outfit. Not only does she look super fashionable and super cool, she’s reviving the season’s blousy top and straight leg jeans, plus reworking flip flops and winter’s knit beret. Envious? Don’t be. Your Style: Taking Magazine Looks Into the Everyday

It’s one thing to read magazines, and another to take what’s in them and make it wearable for the street. The outfits in Vogue and People might look slick and sophisticated on paper, but getting in and out of a car or or trying to head to class in them is a whole other story. Luckily there are a few hipsters out there who know how to take an editorial look and bring it down to street level. That’s what stopped me in my tracks when I first saw Stylediarist Missinterpret. Ten great looks that could be right out of Lucky, with everyday wearability. Here’s a SLIDESHOW of my favorites!

Street Style Steal: Get This NY Fashionista’s Easy-Peasy Look!

Fashion people know that there are certain cities where locals just breathe style, the type of places that other fashionistas flock to in hopes that it might rub off on them (or at least land them the perfect find). New York is one of these kind of places, where even the little kids dress cool and next year’s trends whisk by left and right.  It’s where we spotted today’s Perfect Stranger, who takes five of the most basic things and whips up a snacky style combination. Not only does it look super cool, but it’s also very easy to do! Check out my SLIDESHOW to see how to make it happen.

Dressing Room Diary: Finding The Perfect Jeans

Shopping for jeans is not easy. Go beyond the big retail brands and you’ve got more than three dozen smaller names to test out and try to size, so much that buying a single pair of jeans can take hours. Let’s not even talk about the fact that on top of this, more than half of the lines out there cost upwards of a few hundred dollars.  For that price, it’s almost as if denim designers should have somebody try it all on for us and tell us what to buy and what to avoid.  Oh wait, that’s what I’ve done! After trying (and trying) dozens of jeans, here’s a SLIDESHOW of my five favorites!

Street Steal: Get This Quirky Chick’s West Coast Vibe

While trends and styles may vary from place to place, fashion does have one universal vibe: Cool. It doesn’t matter where you go or what you do, from New York to New Zealand, Dallas to Dubai, hipster’s a global term that works for all shapes, all people. It was this very thing that stopped me in my tracks at a low-key party in Los Angeles not long ago, an outfit so cool and fashionable, I had to share it with others. It’s colorful, casual, chic and super stylish. Here’s a SLIDESHOW of the five pieces to get the look!

Timeless Stylediarist Puts the Cool in Classic

Trendy and classic are like two sisters in the fashion world. One’s kind of a little wild, goes out on a limb, and constantly changes her mind every season, the other is sturdy and stable, the kind of gal you can count on for years. Both are cool in their own way, but there’s nothing quite like a good, clean classic. That’s why I am crazy about Stylediarist Cloudylady’s look book. It’s full of cool, timeless items. Here’s a SLIDESHOW of my ten favorite looks.

Style Poll: Which SATC Character’s Outfits Are You Dying To See?

If you’ve managed to endure the past few months without catching every bit of news about Sex And The City: The Movie, and dodged every spoiler that came along with it, I’m not sure whether to commend you for your self control or wonder if you’ve been living under a rock. That said, for those of us who are completely aware of every plot point in the film, the major surprises are going to be in the stars’ outfits. Carrie, Charlotte, Samantha, and Miranda are all a bit older, and while I’m sure they can still run after cabs in sky-high heels like no one else can, it’ll be interesting to see if their outfits grew up too. Which then begs the question:

Which character's outfits are you most excited to see?

Dressing Room Diary: Trying On the Latest at American Apparel

My number one rule for fashion is to be an equal opportunity shopper, or in other words, to shop anywhere, at any price, any time. And boy, do I. I don’t care if its Forever 21 or Fendi, Banana Republic or Bottega, I’m happy to browse the racks, and should luck be on my side, make a purchase. It’s why I’ll always duck into American Apparel to case out its latest offerings and try things on. It’s the kind of the place you can score a $30 dress to wear with those $500 Prada heels. 10 Throwback Outfits From a Fashion Forward Fashionista

I don’t blame women for fighting off the days of having to spend hours getting into a dress, but the proliferation of casual in fashion means the mere glimpse of something glam just somehow feels rare and decadent, like you’re in another city having the best chocolate mousse, that you know you’ll never taste again. Some People Are Just Born With Good Style

While plenty of Stylediarists turn heads with their uber-cool style and hip fashion picks, there’s one who you can’t possibly avoid gushing over no matter what she’s wearing. Her style can be best described as creative and cute, be it a fabulous dress or simple leggings, and she’s never afraid to mix prints or try the unexpected. One minute you find her taking cues from the runway and pairing floral prints with stripes, the next she’s working a great color combination like teal and brown. Animal prints are another favorite, along with timeless stores like Old Navy and Gap. She’s been a top Stylediarist for nearly all of her life. Stylediarists Are Ready for Prom! Check Out Their Fab Dresses!

One of the cool things about prom is all the work you do in advance, like casing out what your friends are going to wear, pouring through magazines for ideas and talking about it with everybody else. It’s practically like you’re Rachel Zoe and it’s some swanky awards show ala Hollywood style, with your own handsome suitor and your own limousine. Only you’ve also got homework, after school sports and that babysitting empire that’s paying for the extra you spend on a dress. Feeling stressed? No need. Dressing Room Diary: Trying On Hot Tops at Bloomies!

Please accept my apologies. I have been going on and on with test driving dresses for weeks on end and almost forgot that that tops are also red hot this season. So yesterday at Bloomingdales I focused. I stayed strong and forced myself to only audition tops, five of them, in spring’s hottest styles. I only broke the ban to include a pair of Hudson jeans, but that was just because I had on a print skirt that wouldn’t match with any of it. Here’s a SLIDESHOW to satisfy the upper half.

Editor’s Pick: Five Prom Dresses You Can Wear Again!

No matter how special your prom is, no matter how handsome the suitor or how hipster you are, the dress you buy will either give you wear in the years to come or it’ll hang in your mom’s attic until it’s someday hauled off via yard sale. The long, backless dress that ended in a big black bow that I wore to my 11th grade homecoming dance was worn again at a black tie wedding for a hotel heiress five years later, and adorned my baby sister for her senior prom long after. The bright bubble gum pink tea-length taffeta strapless worn to graduation? Not so much. The ticket is all about what you pick. Soiree Style: Stylehive Parties With the Gastineau Girls at Petro Zillia

Los Angelinos may slack off during the day, sticking to easy lounge pants and hoodies, but come evening time, things kick up a notch and there’s style everywhere. The current look du jour is a pair of cool pants worn with a floaty, sexy silk top and 70s jewelry, heels hidden under floor-grazing hems. Pretty dresses with flat gladiator sandals and easy trouser denim looks are close behind, while style setters are all about pant-length silk jumpsuits with halter necklines and voluminous legs. This was the scene at the Tres Glam trunk show last night, hosted at Petro Zillia. Guests noshed on HER energy drinks, munchies from Ashton Kutcher’s restaurant Dolce, and Roberto Cavalli vodka with designers Britney and Lisa Gastinau (of Gastinau Girls).
