It's Hip to be "Square!"

A pocket square can work in two ways: it can be a flourish of color erupting out of your breast pocket or it can be a crisp, structured piece of fabric showing power a la Don Draper from "Mad Men." I myself have a big arsenal of pocket squares - maybe a little too big. There was one point in my sartorial life when I kept on buying pocket squares without thinking. I was obsessed. Now that I look in the drawer that is specifically designated for my squares, I look at some of them and say, "What in the hell was I thinking?" That said, don't make the same mistake I did. Keep it simple and/or bold. When choosing patterned squares, pick one that will be suitably showcased in your pocket. Remember- for the most part, the pocket square won't be seen in its entirety. This Season, Thou 'Shawl' Wear Sweaters

A while back, the shawl neck collar was more common for retirement home residents and winter wonderland lumberjacks who lived in a log cabin and sipped coffee from tin cups and slept on bear skin rugs. Little did we know, they were way ahead of their time. Shawl necks are a hot commodity for both men and women since designers have added a modern magic wand to the classic neckline. From cardigans to hoodies to knitted skulls, the shawl neck is all over the place. Maison Martin Margiela, Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren have all made some winter-friendly shawl knits that stay true to the nostalgia, but are sartorially relevant to the 21st century. The rolled neck comes in varying v-neck depths and it not only keeps you warm, but it is chic and it has this mature vibe to it. I don't know what it exactly is, but a shawl neck makes you look wise. And if you stick a pipe in your mouth, you will look like a genius Ivy League professor. The Ultimate Wallet Diet

The other night, I was eating dinner and having some stimulating conversation with a group of friends. When the check came, all the guys busted out their wallets and the shock detoured from how to divide the tab to how fat some of these wallets were. All of them had the girth of a telephone book from a small town in Texas, but one of them took the gold medal for the Olympics of wallet obesity. It was busting at the seams with accumulated receipts dating back to 2005, credit cards, video store cards, gym cards, library cards and I think there was a membership card to the Burger King Kid's club circa 1988. I, on the other hand, showcased my Entermodal flip wallet. It was slim, minimal and had everything I needed. It fit perfectly in my front pocket and it didn't disturb the equilibrium of my swagger. That said, I urge all gentlemen to check their wallets. If the wallet looks like a brick, then perhaps you need to put it on a diet. The average gentleman needs two forms of ID, two credit cards and one miscellaneous spot (for your gym card, work entry card, etc.) - all suitable for a slim card case. As for your cash, you don't really need a wallet for that. Fold it neatly and put it in your pocket or if you prefer, you can sneak it into your slim wallet. All of this depends on your lifestyle. If you absolutely need to carry a copious amount of cards, then you'll need a bigger wallet, but it shouldn't be the next contestant on the "Biggest Loser."
