Ring in the New Year With A Radiant Vintage Ring!

I know it's only the second day of Christmas, but really, is there anyone out there who wants to receive two turtle doves? I say cut to the chase and get to the real goodies- those five golden rings! Of course, when The Twelve Days of Christmas first appeared as a children's book back in the 1780s, the famous "five golden rings" are rumored to have had nothing to do with jewelry. (Some say they represented the gold rings on a pheasant's neck.) In any case, it didn't take long for men to figure out that women were way more interested in the 14-carat kind of gold wrapped in beautiful packages. In today's economic climate, however, five golden rings does seem a bit excessive, so I'll be happy to settle for just one of these fabulous finds. Click the slideshow and ring in the New Year with one of these gorgeous rings!

Auntbee's Holiday Wishlist Is Here!

One of our favorite fashionistas, AuntBee, has a holiday wishlist up and ready for you to covet! Leave it to AuntBee to find not one, but two ruffle tops that I simply refuse to live without - at both ends of the price spectrum - from Bill Blass's crisp white ruffle sleeveless top to Forever 21's navy dressy ruffle top. After all, a holiday season without ruffles is hardly a holiday season at all! And if you crave ruffles in the warmer months, AuntBee's got you covered, er, sort of, in Juicy Couture's Beach Ruffle Skirt Bottoms. My personal favorite on the list is the very versatile Erva Design black handbag with the adorable metallic clasp. Check out the rest of AuntBee's Holiday Wishlist and try not to drool.

Cool Stuff Made of Reclaimed Wood!

From furniture to home accessories to jewelry, artisans and even mainstream companies are now making objects from one of the greenest materials available: reclaimed wood. Reclaimed wood can come from a variety of sources--dilapidated homes, barn beams, and rail road tracks, to name a few--and its use keeps manufacturers from further depleting our world's forests. What's so great about that? Deforestation is one cause of global warming, not to mention all of the wildlife, ecosystems, and biodiversity that are harmed by clearing our forests. So, do the world a favor and shop for products made out of reclaimed, recycled, or sustainably harvested wood! Need some ideas? Check out my slideshow of cool products made with reclaimed wood!

The rings range from cute and chunky seashells, to blingin' geodes, to an outrageous diamond-encrusted octopus. Jewelry Class: Alexandrite a Worthy Upstart in the World of Rubies and Turquoise

In the far-reaching history of gemstones in jewelry, alexandrite is one of the "newer" stones, having been discovered in the Ural Mountains of Russia in the 1830s and named for Czar Alexander II at his coming of age ceremony; other gems such as turquoise, rubies, and pearls, have deeply ancient roots. So what's so exciting about relative newcomer alexandrite, affectionately called "alex" by many jewelers? For starters, it's truly scarce: natural alexandrite is extremely rare, especially in sizes over one carat. But the most fascinating aspect of this gem is its color-change characteristic, with the best quality stones displaying a brilliant verdant green in sunlight or fluorescent light and shifting to a remarkably rich red in incandescent light or candlelight; lesser quality stones are still unusually lovely, showing blue-green in fluorescent light and plummy purple in incandescent light. Read on for more on how to tell real from fake, and click my SLIDESHOW for some more of the amazing Alex!

Indie Style: Independent Designers in Bloom

I know they're terribly girly, but I just love me some flowers. I especially love just stepping out in the garden and getting some huge rangey rose and plopping it in a vase. Roses aren't my favorite, I'm more of a gerbera girl - but you can't argue with roses from your own garden. These independent designers have worked with a floral theme ranging from the vintage looking letterpress coasters of Sarah Parrot, bold modern blooms of Taïr Mercier and abstracted jewelry of Selina Campbell. Each captures that summer spirit, and well, they're just gosh darn fabulous! Click on the SLIDESHOW to see more flowers!
