There were also a variety of cuts- jackets were sculpted and narrow as well as inflated and voluminous, dresses ranged from soft and flowy to structured and architectural, pant-shapes could be super-slim and cigarette shaped or loose and slouchy.

NYFW Runway Report: Verrier Gives Imperial Russia a Sexy Twist

Designer Ashleigh Verrier was inspired by imperial Russia for the Verrier fall/winter '08 collection, aptly titled Titled "Fabergé Bohemian," which incorporated the opulence of this period with the simplicity of the peasant lifestyle. Staying true to the signature ultra-femme pieces, heavy on the lace and frills, slightly edgy, Verrier style, this collection was both whimsical and restrained, drawing from an array of disparate elements and bringing them together seamlessly.

NYFW Runway Report: Erica Davies' Gypsy Glam Rocker Chic!

The Development by Erica Davies fall/winter '08 collection did not stringently follow one theme - instead, designer Erica Davies allowed her multiple sources of inspiration to blend and overlap-resulting in an AMAZING collection that can best be described as "laid-back Bohemian babe meets street-wise tough-chick and encounters a mysterious girl from a foreign country.' Erica was inspired by Marlene Dietrich in the 1947 film, Golden Earrings where she played a Hungarian Gypsy named Lydia, and drew upon ethnic and gypsy inspirations which she updated and reconfigured to create urban motifs. Rather than letting the sources of inspiration override her unique vision, Erica kept the the Bohemian and ethnic references restrained and subdued - a few floaty chiffon numbers, some ikat prints, touches of fringe here and there- for an innovative, culturally-conscious collection that did not compromise contemporary sensibility.

NYFW Runway Report: Nanette Lepore Goes Gossip Girl Glam

I know exactly where Eric Damon, the genius behind all the incredible styles we lust over each week on the hit show Gossip Girl, is going to find looks for upcoming episodes: the Nanette Lepore showroom! How do I know this? Because each look that sauntered down the runway during the fall/winter '08 show simply screamed "Serena van der Woodsen'- not surprising since the collection was inspired by the high-society party girl.

NYFW Runway Review: Diesel Takes It Up A Level

This past fashion week was an exciting one for Diesel and marked the unveiling of the Diesel Black Gold collection- said to "inject fresh fuel into the fashion machine." The new line stayed true to the signature Diesel DNA, but injected it with a big dose of sexy-edgy-coolness for a collection that mixed the obvious with the surreal and the minimal with the graphic. We saw unexpected layering and fabric pairings; loose silhouettes that glided over all the right places and moved sensuously; layers that created transparent, light as air effects; angular shapes that were smoothed and softened; classic materials like wool, silk, viscose, and of course, denim that were cut and molded in surprising ways for a new kind of tailoring. Described as being "allergic to the obvious' this collection contained a subversive, effortless, and understated type of sex appeal- the kind that holds your attention and lies below the surface, begging for a closer look.

NYFW Runway Report: MaxAzria Goes Vixen-Chic

The MaxAzria fall/winter 2008 collection embraced feminine sex-appeal in an alluring, yet sophisticated way with an underlying boudoir-vixen-chic vibe the whole way through. The collection played up the feminine form with bold belts and corsets- both of which were incorporated in almost every look (think corsets over everything, even sweaters) for a waist-cinching, hourglass silhouette. The unique combinations of texture and volumes, with a hint of sensuality like lace slip skirts, prevented the collection from entering crass territory. Sheer fabrics were combined with heavy wools, and girly prints were paired with felt caps. All of this toughened up the collection, giving it a very femme-fatale meets tomboy feel- which Stylehive and the group of A-list celebs who came out (all sitting a mere 2 rows in front of us!) simply couldn't get enough of!

NYFW Runway Report: DVF's New Wrap-Free Collection

The woman responsible for bringing back the effortlessly easy to wear, ultra-flattering, wrap dress is evolving into even more fabulous territories, an apparently bidding adieu to conquered territories, because we didn't see a single wrap dress on the Diane Von Furstenberg fall/winter '08 runway presentation. Instead, Diane showcased a truly stunning array of separates, from coats, to skirts, to blazers, to tops.
