We're Head Over Heels For These Handmade Headpieces!

Feathers, flowers, and over-sized bows- oh my! These adorable headpieces are literally popping up everywhere from the Spring '09 collections of Luella and Diane von Furstenberg even to my Friday night out. I'm going to shy away from terms like "headgear," as I've heard the word used to describe these accessories, but frankly I find it a bit off-putting and rather inaccurate and it kind of reminds me of those awkward childhood sleepovers when at bedtime a new friend put on this elaborate mechanical device to my shock and utter horror. But back to the matter at hand, these adorable headpieces that stole our hearts as children are once again finding their way atop our heads. Using the all-things-handmade online marketplace Etsy, young and innovative designers are making quite a splash (and some cash) with these charming creations and the creative competition has skyrocketed, yielding a plethora of designs to choose from. From delicate feather arrangements to floral garnishes all the way to whimsical scenes, these headpieces make it possible to adorn your head with pretty much whatever you please! These crafty ladies have me reminiscing about my childhood (and no, not in the bedtime-braces kind of way) and they definitely have me clicking on PayPal. Moisturize With Buttercream Frosting, Exfoliate With Parfait!

The creators of Jaqua Bath & Beauty must be geniuses. Not only have they found a way to successfully combine bath time and dessert time without the usual crumbs in the tub effect, but their line of beauty accessories are so stunningly packaged that you'll be more than a little tempted to leave them out on the counter for display. My roommate, Lauren, was the first to get me hooked on the line. When we moved in together she kindly forewarned me that the delicious buttercream smelling stuff in the bathroom was not frosting, but body butter. Would have fooled me. Jewelry Class: Alexandrite a Worthy Upstart in the World of Rubies and Turquoise

In the far-reaching history of gemstones in jewelry, alexandrite is one of the "newer" stones, having been discovered in the Ural Mountains of Russia in the 1830s and named for Czar Alexander II at his coming of age ceremony; other gems such as turquoise, rubies, and pearls, have deeply ancient roots. So what's so exciting about relative newcomer alexandrite, affectionately called "alex" by many jewelers? For starters, it's truly scarce: natural alexandrite is extremely rare, especially in sizes over one carat. But the most fascinating aspect of this gem is its color-change characteristic, with the best quality stones displaying a brilliant verdant green in sunlight or fluorescent light and shifting to a remarkably rich red in incandescent light or candlelight; lesser quality stones are still unusually lovely, showing blue-green in fluorescent light and plummy purple in incandescent light. I've come to the conclusion that it's time to play with makeup again. For so long, makeup has on a daily basis been used to make us look "naturally" beautiful. Style Star: Eve Kinizo Stars in Toronto's 1st Annual STYLE Show

One of Toronto's newest designers will take part in the 1st annual STYLE Show this fall in Toronto. "STYLE Canada will bridge the gap that exists between Canada's hidden talent and established professionals within the industry, say the organizers. Eve Kinizo's collection "Hip Line By Eve Kinizo" will be part of the show as one of the featured designers and collections in the "Trendy Fashion" category. Opening with a launch event in October, Eve will show select pieces from her Spring '09 collection followed by a fashion show in November where she will show 4 unique pieces that were selected by the jury, specifically for this event. The highlight of the event is the unique Pink Dress, that each designer will put together to be auctioned at the show .
