So to hasten the slow approach of spring, I've found a few ways to update your home with some colorful accents without a lot of effort. Plant a keylime tree in your patio or sunny kitchen for a dash of natural aroma and bright color to match. A cherry red pillow against your sofa or bed will certainly bring some much needed color. NYFW Backstage Beauty: Get the Julie Haus Hair and Makeup Runway Look

The Julie Haus Spring 2009 collection was all about celebrating the rebellious spirit of women. Enhancing the fun, carefree, and slightly irreverent vibe of the fabulous fashions that lit up the runway were the effortlessly sexy, naturally undone hair and makeup looks. According to Dwight O'Neal, who created the makeup look for The Balm, "It's just very, very natural. Picture a model on a go-see and she's rushing getting in between places and she hops in a cab and just does her makeup really quickly- she throws on lip gloss throws on her mascara really quickly. So it's just the natural beautiful you shining through, not about the makeup." Read on for a step-by-step guide to replicate the hair and makeup looks!

New York Fashion Week Trend Report: Asymmetry On The Runways

You don't have to be in the front rows to tilt your head at one of Spring 2009's most notable trends. Designers have been dabbling in asymmetry for some time now but this time around, one-shouldered dresses were put front and center, a significant departure from previous seasons where the daring look seemed to be pushed to the sidelines. Max Azria looked at asymmetry from a different angle with a one-shouldered, bias-cut gown with a front halter strap, while Marc Jacobs indulged in his signature offbeat style by sending a model down the catwalk in a quirky, single shoulder-baring top. Nicole Miller layered a structured asymmetrical shift over a crisp shirt dress making the look oddly workplace appropriate, and BCBGMAXAZRIA's coral-pink asymmetrical dress was draped so beautifully, giving the illusion that it was falling off the model- intentionally, I'm certain. Click the SLIDESHOW to see who else picked up on the trend.

New York Fashion Week Trend Report: Acid Brights

Flashing lights aren't just for the cameras, and this season was all about the candid look of acid brights- those neon tones that, when done right, transcend the dreaded day-glo look and become patches of pure spontaneity. Alexander Wang, taking a break from the blacks and greys that defined his Fall 2008 collection, opted for punchy pinks and oranges for Spring 2009, sometimes in the same outfit. Matthew Williamson paired bright jackets and pants with even brighter heels, Tadashi Shoji squeezed lime green over skirts and anoraks, and Chris Benz played up sheer neutrals with shades of yellow ranging from canary to fluorescent. If you're still not seeing neon, opt for a more subtle splash- a neon bandeau peeking out from a black or tan tank, a brighter-than-usual sandal, or for the truly faint of heart- neon nail polish. As for stares you'll get-- we're pretty sure they're looks of envy. Check out the slideshow for some of the brightest looks from New York Fashion Week.

New York Fashion Week Runway: Carmen Marc Valvo Has Eveningwear Squared Away

Renowned for the unique details he incorporates into eveningwear, Carmen Marc Valvo built upon this trademark for his Spring 2009 collection, choosing to focus on one detail in particular- the square. Body-con woven ribbon dresses, gorgeous metallic leather square skirts, eye-catching patent square sequin appliques, and geometric basket woven details transformed pretty dresses into show-stopping numbers, and swimsuits were given the square treatment as well. Taking a break from the rigidity of the square shape, black microfiber twisted jersey dresses added fluidity to the collection with the perfect balance of draping and tailoring, and a pair of pleated trousers ensured that Valvo's signature elegance will travel from ballroom to boardroom in style.
Colors: black, ivory, canary yellow, grass green
Celeb Sightings: Emmy Rossum, Tamara Tunie, Ingrid Seynhaeve
