As a 20 year old who just moved to the New York’s Lower East Side, I’ve been scouring for some great muses to help take my style from suburban chic to city hipster. My first stop for some fashion inspiration was Stylediary, and I was very pleasantly surprised when I came across papercup. While at first glance it seems like this fashionista exemplifies a typical lower east side hipster, she mixes it up by incorporating pricey pieces to her look, for a style that’s still downtown and grungy, but with a sophisticated, Upper East Side twist. The most exciting way to browse Stylediary is to search “By Country.” I scoped out over 100 diarist’s from Austria, and Jana remained a top fav! She has over 300 varying looks, all covetable and fashion forward. I was lured in to this casual business look, that resembles a day at work in Nantucket! She proves that wearing a blue button-up with white cuffs and collar doesn’t have to fancy and stiff. Mini skirts come in and out of the fashion world, and now Jana has showed me how to pull off a white one! The brown bag and shoe accents are a perfect way to keep it summery and light. Fearless fashionistas are hard to come by. While browsing through Stylediary, I came across pink_panther, who definitely fit the bill and I couldn’t help by envy her fun, anything-goes approach to fashion. This outfit in particular was a favorite of mine. I love how she blended a hipster, lower east side vibe with an upscale European-chic twist and that she wasn’t afraid to pack in some added punch with bold blue pumps for a fun, fresh, fashion-forward look. It can get pretty tricky to find the perfect summer look, especially one that will look good, keep you comfortable, and help shield you from the sun’s harmful UV rays. While searching through Stylediary for inspiration for the perfect summer ensemble, I came upon Lorena, and found exactly what i was looking for! With a baggy graphic t-shirt, high heeled sandals, some hipster light wash skinny jeans, and a floppy sun hat, this outfit is light and airy and perfect to wear as you lounge outside or shop the outdoor circuit! While wandering the fashionable world of Soho, NYC, I spotted two fashionistas named Sarah and Alex taking a break from work. These girls spend their days on the ultra-trendy Spring Street, working at the LF Store so they obviously have a knack for killer style. What excited me most were the beaming bright denim cut-offs, especially since I’ve been trying to track down a pair FOREVER and the LF Store has an amazing selection. I also loved how these girls paired classic pieces like a cardigan or scarf, with rugged boots, for super funky, effortless, downtown-chic styles that stood out even amidst a sea of Soho girls. Leaving my house in Laurel Heights, I caught this funky grandma wannabe for San Francisco’s Street Style StyleDiary. Wearing both vintage and new, Rachel was mixing prints and textures to give the comfy layered look a not-so-senior-citizen type twist. A high waisted American Apparel
pocketed skirt with a vintage western belt was cute and unexpected. Perfect for a day at the museum, her little blouse and scarf gave it all a touch of fun sophistication. But to tell you the truth, what I really loved was the rolled down scrunchy wool-like socks in heather grey with some cute bronze flats! I had forgotten those wonderful days of childhood comfort, and am now officially bringing it back (into my life, at least). I came across Alex while shopping in San Francisco’s Union Square, and the first thing I noticed was her apparent love for accessories. And although I could barely tear my eyes away from her stellar rainbow headband, I noticed that she had paired all of her one of a kind pieces with more subdued articles. To find such a balance of leather and metallic, vintage and new, hippy/girly and rocker-- these instances are few and far between. Another satisfying day in the LF store! We all need that store that will NEVER let us down, which is why we shop ‘till we drop at LF! Their website will give you a good hint as to what they are working with, but I suggest you pop in the store to find out more. You will be dazzled by an array of colored denim, trendy sandals, and patterned dresses. There are LF stores in NYC, LA, San Francisco, Boston, and more. It’s summertime! The temperatures are rising and fashion is using its guiding force to dress us in next to nothing-- translation: the body conscious trend has officially arrived. What is so great about Taylor, who we found shopping in downtown San Francisco, is that her look is cool, simple, and completely covered. We feel that this look could be easily worn by any age, which makes it a perfect style steal. Her look is a great alternative to jeans and a t-shirt, and perfect for everyday wear. After meeting Taylor, my fellow intern Sydel and I couldn’t stop looking for flowy blouses like her Catherine Malandrino number. As a uniform-clad Catholic schoolgirl, I hated the high-waisted skirts and little white collared shirts they made us wear. Yet today I admit that, had I not burned it, I would probably wear that schoolgirl skirt again! And I’d see a couple other girls wearing the same cute pleated little cut in a variety of patterns with oxfords and leggings, too. I spotted Victoria shopping in Downtown San Francisco. Drawn to her casual style, I got to stalking ... I mean talking! After snapping her pic for Stylehive’s SF Street Style Stylediary, I found out Victoria was a leather accessories designer from Los Angeles! Leather can be harsh if used in excess, but her pieces are delightfully simple and she obviously knows just how to pair them with simple feminine items to let her whole style shine through. I took this picture of Ashley for Stylehive’s NY Street Style Stylediary. Ashley was wearing the perfect outfit for a warm summer night concert (which is where I met her). Her navy cotton dress has adorable little pockets so she can hold stuff without carrying around a bulky purse. She accessorized with white flip flops and her mom’s wood and turquoise jewelry. As a new intern at Stylehive in San Francisco, I’d like to introduce myself and my style to all of you! Although many pieces I wear are very reminiscent of past eras, I always remember to throw a lot of color in each and every outfit. A Mod red, white and blue mini tunic dress is flowy and practical. I believe that accessories can make or break an outfit; a flashy necklace and braided a bold-colored headband give any look some extra oomph. And always being prepared means carrying a large parcel in which to hold things! Pair it with textured knit tights and scrunchy folded suede boots, and you have both comfort and aesthetics. I was walking around Manhattan yesterday sporting my new American Apparel spandex - and man did it turn some heads! The new wave of spandex has gotten interesting! I was rocking the black pleather, but you can get shiny or sparkly ones at AA as well. Shopping for jeans is not easy. Go beyond the big retail brands and you’ve got more than three dozen smaller names to test out and try to size, so much that buying a single pair of jeans can take hours. Yes, I’m in a town that’s a little bitty bit obsessed with appearances, a town where people focus more on what they look like than anything else. Los Angelinos may slack off during the day, sticking to easy lounge pants and hoodies, but come evening time, things kick up a notch and there’s style everywhere. The current look du jour is a pair of cool pants worn with a floaty, sexy silk top and 70s jewelry, heels hidden under floor-grazing hems. Pretty dresses with flat gladiator sandals and easy trouser denim looks are close behind, while style setters are all about pant-length silk jumpsuits with halter necklines and voluminous legs. This was the scene at the Tres Glam trunk show last night, hosted at Petro Zillia. Guests noshed on HER energy drinks, munchies from Ashton Kutcher’s restaurant Dolce, and Roberto Cavalli vodka with designers Britney and Lisa Gastinau (of Gastinau Girls). I love shoes and Prada is one of my favorite fashion fixes. The store on Fifth Avenue in New York is so 1970s cool, like Elvis’ house in a good way, surrounded by the most gorgeous, up-to-date things you’ll see all season. Designer Muiccia Prada doesn’t just have a great eye for fashion stuff, but is known as sharp in business. She can sway from cool and creative to timeless classic to innovative, then run the show. Lunch in LA is like a disheveled runway show. Hipsters swaddled in slick, I-didn’t-mean-to-look-cool outfits roll about the city’s hot spots snacking on turkey and brie sandwiches and ginormous fruit salads. Little dogs lounge (or bark excessively) from underneath chairs at outdoor patios while the occasional paparazzi swarm rolls in. When the sun is high, it’s all about big sunglasses, flat footwear and the vibe that the local population has just rolled out of bed. Today’s SLIDESHOW features five such decadent Hollywood lunchtime looks!
There are those who cook elaborate meals with two grocery bags full of ingredients and an array of spices, whipping together something dynamic. Others take just a handful of things and cook up a meal that’s as delicious. Whatever way you slice and dice it, there are a million different ways to put together a look. You’ve got your girls like Mary Kate Olsen and Gwen Stefani, who whip up elaborate concoctions, while simple girls like Reese Witherspoon and Katie Holmes pare it down to looking great with just a sparse few things. Minnesota-based Stylediarist Knave is a course in keeping things to a fashionable minimum. Most of her ten outfits don’t exceed more than five or so pieces. Style is so perfect when easy.
Porridge’s designer has said she takes a cue from vintage fabrics. Virginia Johnson’s prints have been known to be inspired by what she sees in nature. Diane Von Furstenberg, perhaps the queen of all prints, obviously had something going on in the 60s and 70s, because her creations from the era (which she now brings back every season) are some kind of funky and fun. The current season is stocked full of styles from wrap dresses to baby dolls to long frocks and mini cuts. Colors, shapes, stars, checks – there is no end to the bevy of options. Old school rocker girls like Joan Jett and Blondie were just so cool. They wore ripped up t-shirts and smeared makeup and just rocked out, kicking over speakers and breaking guitars while singing about love being a battlefield and loving rock and roll. There was no bubble gum pink or lip syncing. These girls were true bad assess who jammed in leather pants and tore up t-shirts and toured around with their equally cool bands. Stevie Knicks, Pat Benetar, the girls from Heart. They’re iconic. This isn’t your Hilary Duff or Avril Lavigne, people, but girls that played as tough as the boys of their era and had the style to prove it. That’s the inspiration behind Capri Stylediarist Pinkgamegirl’s look book. She’s also a hair stylist, too!
There’s nothing quite like the Starbucks line on a weekday morning anywhere in the country. Over the noise of a hissing, percolating gigantic espresso machine, baristas (as they’re known in the Starbucks manual) and cashiers shout drink orders back and forth while patrons wait patiently for their turn. Triple-shot-two-pump-no-whip-skim mochas, venti-no-foam-extra-hot-half-and-half lattes - literally thousands of different combinations must exist around the world. It just leaves me in awe. The same effect goes on with Stylediarist Nancy’s look book. Color combined in so many ways, it’s dizzying. Only instead of a line out the door, it’s just one girl. So cool.
