At the Teen Choice Awards, actress Brittany Snow made a show-stopping splash on the blue carpet wearing a vibrant strapless floral minidress by Jill Stuart paired with ravishing red pumps. To prevent sensory overload, Brittany balanced this high-octane look by exercising accessory-restraint, selecting only two pieces- small diamond hoops and an oversized cocktail ring. A richly-colored dress like this one is almost always universally flattering and can beautifully enhance any complexion, just as it did for Brittany. The flirty florals make this dress perfect for summer, but with a little maneuvering, it can easily make the transition to fall- a slim cardigan, tights, a pair of funky booties and there ya go! Check out my SLIDESHOW for 5 fun and flirty dresses similar to Brittany’s that will keep you fashionably fabulous year-round.
Always the classic, subdued, understatedly sexy Hilton Sis, Nicky is a consistent source of fashion-inspiration for me and many others, whether they’d like to admit it or not. The tamer Hilton sister stepped out at The Good Life photograph exhibition looking enviably chic in a Tibi art-nouveau inspired printed dress. To glam up the look, Nicky accessorized with diamond hoops, a diamond bangle, fabulous cocktail ring, and killer metallic pumps. Check out my SLIDESHOW to get the look.
Ashley Thompson opened Owl’s Lab in New York City right after moving from a sunny beach in California. And it shows. “Owl’s Lab is known for playing into the style trends from both coasts,” Ashley explained during my tour of her packed racks and shelves. “I would say that’s one of my distinguishing qualities as a buyer, being from the West Coast, but being influenced by my life on the East Coast. I blend the two into the Owl’s Lab wardrobe.” Stylehive interns Abby and Emily had a great afternoon trying on the latest Owl’s Lab outfits and accessories last week. Just because a dress is long and covers your stems, doesn’t mean it can’t be sexy – after all, leaving something to the imagination can be awfully alluring. Maxi (or long) dresses are all the rage for summer – while the airy skirt still keeps you cool, there’s the added protection from UV rays as an added bonus, if you’re worried about that kind of thing. My friend Catherine is – she just spent the weekend at the beach and came home with a nasty, splotchy, and painful burn all over the tops of her shins, so she’ll be living in dresses like these for the rest of the summer. Click SEE SLIDESHOW for 10 dresses she’ll be trying on in the next few days....
If this year’s contentious Democratic primaries have taught us anything, it is that like-minded people can still disagree. About health care. About religion. Even about rompers. Today Stylehive editors LisanneBee and BreeBee face off over the one-piece in our inaugural Style Fight. Click READ MORE to see our worthy adversaries duke it out for the sake of style. Who wins? Forget minis for the moment. To compensate for the return of more body-conscious, form-fitting silhouettes, designers have thrown us all a bone and brought back the maxi dress to give us a chic way to cover it up when we’re facing that inevitable battle of the bloat. The maxi is a rare breed of clothing, one which manages to be sexy despite offering tons of coverage. Choose a style with a plunging neckline, show off the always seductive neckline with a strapless or halter style, hug your curves in a body-skimming style, or hide them behind a more billowy silhouette. There are tons of amazing maxi’s out there, so check out my SLIDESHOW for some of my favorites.
Just like ruffles, the mini dress is a style I arbitrarily rejected until I took the plunge, tried on one, and fell in love. I’m not really sure why it took me so long to give the mini a test run- maybe it was the result of relying on jeans and cute tops as go-to choices for so many years. However that ship has sailed and the minidress, in all its just-slip-it-on-and-you’re done glory is now officially my fool-proof choice. Wear your mini with sandals during the day, with killer pumps for a night out, with bare legs when the heat strikes, with leggings while the cold lingers, with loaded on accessories for a boho-inspired look, with minimal accessories for an effortlessly polished look, I could go on but we’d be here for a really long time!
