One day back in 1959, a desperate housewife took a dozen colorful dresses made by her dressmaker and set them up for sale at an orange juice stand. From this simple beginning, a legend was born. Within five years, it seemed almost every American woman was sporting one of Lilly Pulitzer’s simple sheath dresses in an eye-popping print. Lilly became a favorite at resorts and country clubs nationwide and even Jacqueline Kennedy became a fan. And while the Lilly Pulitzer label continues to manufacture clothes today, the early vintage dresses and skirts of the 1960s and 1970s still hold a special charm. Sunny San Francisco days call for lazy mornings, leisurely walks, and long brunches, so when the weekend finally rolls around, head over to Foreign Cinema. Tucked away in SF’s lively Mission district, the restaurant is known for the foreign and independent films shown in the outdoor courtyard, during which guests can dine and drink to their hearts’, stomachs’, and minds’ content, though brunch is equally delectable. I wandered down to the “industrial-chic” establishment a few Saturday mornings ago to see for myself, and let’s just say my go-to brunch place across from my apartment has some serious, high-ceilinged and white tableclothed competition. Click SEE SLIDESHOW for a taste of Foreign Cinema, a true serving of San Francisco City Style!

Although I personally am not ‘petite,’ I can definitely empathize with the plight of petites when it comes to finding the perfect pants. If you wear pants that are too loose, you can look like you’re drowning, too long, and you’ll look sloppy and short, too tight, and you can look especially teeny and shapeless. Length and fit are of utmost importance- a golden rule that applies to ladies of all body types, but is especially crucial for petites. Since your body type is significantly smaller than the average woman, finding a good tailor is ESSENTIAL when it comes to looking amazing. Click READ MORE for additional tips to help all you petites wear pants perfectly.

Of all the bright colors making the rounds this spring, I’m definitely favoring all things in the hue of electric blue! This color is undoubtedly striking, but not in that overly loud, obnoxious, paranoia-inducing kind of way. Unlike most bright colors, this one complements virtually every skin-tone and looks phenomenal set against all hair colors. Not only that, it looks incredible paired with every color period, from basic black to roaring red to punchy pink to glittery gold and on and on- color-coordinating mishaps are a non-issue when you throw this shade into the mix. So add some spark to your look and check out my SLIDESHOW for hot finds in this electrifying shade.
Tim Gunn, the hardest-working man in the style biz (he’s got two Bravo series under his belt, logs overtime hours to mentor his protégés, and is Chief Creative Officer of Liz Claiborne), shows no signs of slowing down. With season two of Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style coming soon, and Project Runway season five gearing up for production this summer, Gunn told Stylehive that he’s “fully expecting” fellow judge Nina Garcia back on Runway… but he has some concerns about the fate of oh-so-fierce Christian Siriano! Patterned mini skirts aren’t the only ones pumping up the volume this season. Designers like Oscar de la Renta, Carolina Herrera, and Donna Karan have been showing longer variations as well. My friends at Red Light PR loaned me a black and white voluminous skirt from the Lauren Conrad Collection to show you how to work the style three ways. Head over to my Hive to shop the looks, and click READ MORE to see the looks I created!
One of the cool things about prom is all the work you do in advance, like casing out what your friends are going to wear, pouring through magazines for ideas and talking about it with everybody else. It’s practically like you’re Rachel Zoe and it’s some swanky awards show ala Hollywood style, with your own handsome suitor and your own limousine. Only you’ve also got homework, after school sports and that babysitting empire that’s paying for the extra you spend on a dress. Feeling stressed? No need. We asked Stylediarists to heed to the call and they’ve sent in their prom looks and favorite prom-ready dresses Here’s a SLIDESHOW of favorites!
Stylehive is full of real style experts - real people who work in the field every day, not crazy TV talking heads who shout fashion pronouncements like their Botox allowance depends on it! Take Pippie Flannigan (what a name!) from St. Petersburg, Florida. She joined Stylehive just a couple of weeks ago, and wrote in her profile: “I’m just a girl who works in the intimates department at the local Macy’s. It’s my mission to get women to wear the right bra.” Well we’ve taken Pippie up on it! Click to see her SLIDESHOW of her Top 5 bras for real women, and why she recommends them!

I’m always searching for the perfect summer clutch. It must be light, great for an outdoor dinner with the fiancée (yes, I’m engaged now), ideal for casual walks on the boardwalk and perfect to take along for weekend getaways. I tend to gravitate towards traditional summer accents like floral or raffia finish, but in a subdued, sophisticated interpretation. If you’re of a certain age, you want to avoid bags that are more suitable for your younger niece. If you need to ask, then you already know where your bag falls. Rafe’s Banyan Morgan Frame Clutch is exactly what a gal like me – and you! – needs to stay sassy all summer long. If this selection doesn’t suit your style, send me an email at and we’ll work together to find the ideal handbag for you.
Eva Mendes bares her boobs, sucks her own toes, and strikes both submissive and dominant poses, all in the name of fashion, in the latest issue of Italian Vogue. The pics have set off a firestorm on the Internets, sending traffic through the roof, and some nervous Nellies wondering if Eva has gone off the deep end and ruined her career! At least in this country. In Italy, famous actresses taking it all off and pushing sexual boundaries rarely elicits even a single “Mama mia!”
While you may hate her character with the fire of a thousand fire-breathing dragons, there’s no denying that Georgina Sparks, played by Michelle Trachtenberg, has taken Gossip Girl to a whole new level of awesome-ness. Sure she’s evil incarnate, but she has a killer sense of style sparking the envy of even the greatest Georgina-haters out there. In Monday night’s episode, Georgina hit below the belt by making a play for the nicest nice guy in the world Dan Humphrey. This scene left me with two questions: ‘What is she doing?!” and “What is she wearing?!” Lucky for you, I have the answer to the latter. Click READ MORE to get her look.
